At the bodywork stage and have been priming , filling , sanding the doors , trunk , removable panels from the coupe. I have been using Shop Line primer which is / was old PPG omni. I have been sanding to bare metal , prime with epoxy then high build and sanding. Reading the label on the primer it says it can be used as a sealer also if it is mixed with some clear. Usually I used epoxy as my sealer before topcoat what are the differences and advantages or disadvantages of doing this. What's the consensus...epoxy - primer - epoxy - topcoat or epoxy - primer - sealer - topcoat ?

  2. I’ve used a lot of shop line. Haven’t used the primer as a sealer.
I don’t like how shoplines epoxy lays down
Maybe I need to cut it a tad. The 2 to 1 epoxies don’t lay down as well as the 1 to 1 epoxies in my opinion
The advantage of the epoxy would be its bare metal capability.
The primer converted into a sealer probably has a faster flash time. You can spray over it or remove nibs faster than the slower curing epoxy.

I agree about the epoxy , it has more texture than I like to see. It doesn't matter as a first coat because I'm spraying high build over it. I like how the primer lays down , maybe even a little smoother as a sealer?

  5. If its the 202 primer, that stuff has a crazy short pot life. Cant hardly slow it down enough in the summer. Especially non reduced

I had to run out to the shop to check . It's JP355 multipurpose primer and JP 390 epoxy.
I had a pot of this primer kick off on me this summer. I was scrambling to clean the gun before it went solid. It was 90 degrees at 10 in the morning , a town near here burned to the ground the next day.

  8. I just finished spraying the final sealer coat with Shopline/ppg epoxy. The mix rate was 2:1:1 when using it as a primer so I added more reducer ( 2:1:1 1/2) and it laid down really nice and smooth.

I don`t like how the Shop Line sprays try Nason always had good luck with it. And it sprays right out of the can.

  15. Don’t know.
It’s their EPX epoxy in their Commercial Performance Coatings line.
2 gallon kits. There’s a filler version as well
