Mark, things are looking great. You're really cookin'! I'm just now realizing in the whirlwind of T.R.O.G. I didn't reach out. It would have been fun to meet up and talk roadsters. I'll give you a shout next time I'm out East. Keep up the impeccable work.

  5. Man, for not having any Model A experience not quite a year ago, you are surely making tracks now! :)

Yes. I’m still collecting parts. Also, I need to either go get the car or have it shipped. Once I make some progress I’ll post a good update.

Here is some explanation so you guys aren’t too confused about what I am doing.
I bought ‘Dusty’ the 1930 coupe. He is in Oklahoma at my cousin’s house. He was a deal too good to pass up. More on that later. However, I am looking for a good condition 1930 roadster to build my AV8 this winter. I really like my 1931 roadster as an old ‘banger’ survivor. Having so much fun with that car. I would rather not mess with him for now. I’ve seen a couple of recent 1930 roadster deals but I move too slow.

No. I’m not sure who Matt is. I got these from my friend Raymond. Still looking for the base roadster for my build.

I was treasure hunting hoping to come up with a Merc crank. Nope. Also, no oil pump either. However, no noticeable cracks on the bottom end. Everything looks ok to me. Turns over smoothly. Now what? Anything else I should look for? How should I clean this thing? Wasn’t really planning on doing a complete tear down, magnaflux, bore, rings…
I was thinking I would just clean it up, get the parts I need to make it run, build a run in stand, and start it up… Bracing for impact. Let me have it.

Such a thing as too much research? I started out confident I was looking for a 30/31 roadster for my AV8 build. Now I am looking at 28/29s. Ugh! I guess I need to take a break.

Cool idea. Thanks for the tip. I just checked with Jim and he is not going to Michigan anytime soon. He said if it were along I70 he could help. Seems like a great guy.
