The Guin area. That’s south of you but not far. They build glass Willys bodies. They told a friend of mine they could build him a front for a 59 Chevy. I’ll try to get the name. Gadsden Al had a Cobra body manufacturer that did one off parts for us when I was in a custom shop.
We have talked with the Cobra guy. If we can get just a hood made that would help. The hood weighs more than both front fenders.
Glory days fiberglass built Dad and I a custom one piece hood for our 1937 Dodge. The quality was nice at a reasonable price. There were several mod we had them do, using a stock steel hood to start from.https://glorydayfiberglass.com/
Thanks for the sources. Hopefully I can get with them next week. I'll be at the SEGA race in Huntsville this weekend. Maybe before the end of the year I can have someone making me some Olds body parts!!
Looking good so far, I'll be following along. I look forward to having that cool car in the SEGA. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. ~Quain Stott~
You are too far away from Sodak for us to participate but what you are doing is cool. Serious rules to keep it era correct but I like that.
It would be great if you will select full size images instead of thumbnails when you post pictures. It makes it easier for those that are following your thread. Thanks in advance
It's good to see you sticking with Olds. I'm also really glad I started with a solid car or I never would have got my car running. LOL Win or not it will be cool seeing that Old's go down the track.
Thanks for the kind words I never get tired of hearing good things. As for the rules, real racers understand the need for strict rules so anyone that don't think there is a need for them wouldn't understand if I did try to explain.
I do wish this one would have been in better shape. Every body body support was rotted along with everything around it. It was so bad that we had to pull the a-pillars forward and the forward 1/4's down to get the doors to open and close.
With the body that 'shaky' will it be safe when you get into the 140/160MPH.....sub 9 second range?! 6sally6
We are putting as much new metal in this car as possible. This car will never see a 1/4 mile pass. All SEGA events are run on a 1/8th. Not to mention there are very few southern 1/4 mile tracks. I figure it's because you can't find enough flat land down here to put one in!
So the real question I have is... what engine are you putting in it? So far this build looks great, but please make this car fast. Like, actually fast. There are waayyyyyy too many "gassers" out there that can hardly crack a 13 sec 1/4 mile.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't a purpose-built straight axle car run in A/G? Even in the late 50s A/G cars were running into the 12s.
I’ve seen top eliminator speeds as low as 85 mph in the qtr from the mid 50s. Cars always get faster as we get older. Except for mine. They were so slow not even my imagination can speed em up
