I was able to find an overdrive unit for my '37 Buick Special. It's out of a '38 Buick Special and I know the '37's axles won't work but I happen to have axles out of a '38 Special I just parted out. Before actually seeing the unit I thought it was built by Lloyd Young but after seeing it person I don't know. From pictures I found on the AACA pre-war Buick site this doesn't look exactly like a Young unit. The gussets and the extended piece behind OD I haven't seen in any other pictures.
If my old eyes are seeing right, that’s “W G” for Warner Gear and it’s an R10 unit. Since so many manufacturers used it, there’s probably a lot of common parts with the units Ford used. I’d start with Mac at Van Pelts, he seems to know about the other more rare uses. Your’s might be on his list. Pretty cool find. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/
I searched for "R10B-1R" and found quite a few posts for the BW overdrive unit. I have been told they came on AMC and Studebakers and a few others and were used for ODs for many older cars. I just was curious if this was a Lloyd Young unit. I traded an rusty '37 Roadmaster chassic and engine for it. I paid $160 for the chassis. I read Lloyd got $2000+ for his units, he was the guy to go to for OD set ups.
