I found this 1964 Ford galaxie and can’t find any car fax history for a 11 character vin for free if anyone could help me find the last owner I’d be greatly thankful Vin: 4A68Z168671
Where did you find it ? How long do you think it’s been parked ? Can you not ask the seller ? If you answer no to any or all these questions …….
4A68Z168671 4 = 1964 model year A = Atlanta, GA Final Assembly Plant (?) 68 = Model/body style (in this case it's a Galaxie 500/XL 2-door fastback roof hatdtop) Z = 390 ci-4bbl 300 hp 168671 = 68,671st full-size Ford built for the model year at the Atlanta Final Assembly Plant Like previous poster sez, because of the clampdown on personal info from DMVs, if you can't track anything down from the seller on back or don't have any paperwork...
1. Prior to 1954, the unique number assigned to a motor vehicle was called a Serial Number. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) was standardized in 1981 to the current 17 digit style. So your 1964 has a VIN, but it is Ford specific, and the breakdown is covered in post #4. https://www.clearvin.com/blog/2020/...actured-before-80s-what-to-do-to-get-verified 2. As mentioned in the link in #1, the serial numbers of older cars could be the body/frame number or engine number, with the problems mentioned. everything back then was written/transferred/typed by humans, which induced errors. Not a problem for your situation, but worth mentioning. 3. The federal and state governments have enacted many laws to restrict sharing of information due to misuse by individuals, meaning that you cannot go to them and ask for historic details of the vehicle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca_Schaeffer#Aftermath https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver's_Privacy_Protection_Act Unfortunately, many state agencies still sell personal info to various companies, some of which may provide a bit of info, but this is pretty shady. The info provided is not what you are asking for. Here is a gov list of providers, but don't expect them to list past owners. https://vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov/nmvtis_vehiclehistory#w7o24a Those junk mail car warranty flyers you get? Probably from state DMV records. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a32035408/dmv-selling-driver-data/ 4. Another source of this information is insurance companies, since they have a vested interest in compiling data and assessing risks. However, they spend a bunch of money collecting, storing and analyzing this information and really don't want to share it. I believe that they are also prohibited by law from sharing this information to individuals. 5. You can search yourself, since this is one of those questions a LOT of people ask... https://www.bing.com/search?q=who+owned+my+car+before+me https://www.google.com/search?q=who+owned+my+car+before+me https://duckduckgo.com/?q=who+owned+my+car+before+me&ia=web https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search/314609600/?q=previous+owners&o=relevance&c[title_only]=1 BTW, doing a search for the VIN comes back with this https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1963-5-1964-ford-galaxie-500xl.1235439/page-3
I'm going out on a limb and assume that you are looking at a car that doesn't have a title and are hunting for the last owner to try and get one. If the car comes with a clear title and isn't some historically special vehicle who besides a total flake gives a rats as who owned it last?
Had to update my decode post. '68' is a Galaxie 500 XL 2dr fastback ht. For the record, 50-series is Custom/Custom 500 2- and 4-door sedans, 60-series is Galaxie 500 of all models (bench seat) except wagons, 70-series are wagons, and 80-series are Galaxie 500 XLs (hardtops and convertible) with bucket seats and console. Summbitch, I'd take that car in a heartbeat (even though I prefer '63s)! Now what's the days plate codes for the color, interior, axle and transmission?
