Hot Rods what recular car trannys bolt up to a 426 i6 or 503 i6 i want to put one in a international kb-2

    has a existing green red diamond 214 and want to know max speed for that also but i do want to get up to higher speeds with ease

    I can not find any I6 IH engines in 426 or 503 CID. These big CID engines will have a lower redline (i.e. RPM) and will be difficult to stuff into the engine compartment of a 1940's light duty truck.

    GMC doesn't make it any easier. Your best bet will likely be a Clark 5 spd or something similar, no regular car or light truck tranny will bolt up. The good news is you have a ton of torque to play with, especially at low rpms. Gear accordingly.

    I've got a KB-2 with the green diamond engine and I think the paperwork gave a top speed of 47 MPH. Seems like mine's geared 4.70 or thereabouts.
     
  9. I think I may be able to get 50 MPH with my '46 K1 w/214 engine, but that is pushing it. I think my rear ratio is 4.11.
