Well I'm asking for HELP!!! The Cragar trans adapter all bolted together and I have about 1 inch play between the throw-out bearing and the cover forks?????? Did the have a special bearing??
Please do not use a big spacer behind the flywheel. Bad things can happen. Is the gap there when the fork is fully to the rear? Or? Do you have the correct arm for the adapter? Back in the old days there were a variety of t/o bearings that we may not have today. I suggest looking into the original sales literature to see if a part number was noted. Perhaps a current user of the combo will opine.
Are you using a 331 cubic inch motor with an extended bell housing? That may account for the dimensional difference
Another warning : If you are using a 49-53 Ford tranny; we called them "glass transmisions". I broke 1st gear with a mild flat 6cyl. Just say'n......

Cliff Ramsdell sold one in the classifieds in 2016 that he said had all the pieces for except for an extended bearing retainer for the trans. The setup he sold had a Borg and Beck clutch. Is this the one you have or did you piece yours together?
