There's nothing sexy about rebuilding light fixtures but it beats losing your lights at an inopportune time. You have to admit, however, they don't make them like this any more.

 

Need to make some new terminals for your sockets when you replace that rotten fabric covered wire? Solder a 1/8" pop rivet to the wire. Voila! You may have to grind down the o.d. if it's going into a duplex socket like any 1157.

 

Sexy? Man I love detail stuff like that and clean work.

 

More detail stuff. A little brush, some One Shot and some thinner on a paper towel is all it takes.

 

That tail light is just gorgeous.

Thanks, Loudbang! I've been restoring cars for a long time. I'm retired and in no hurry, so it's much easier for me to attend to the details as I've gotten older. Plus, my skills have improved.

 

Waiting for small parts is driving me crazy. "For want of a nail....." has passed through my mind many times lately. So, to occupy my time and do something that needed to be done, i made a shallow glove box insert for my SecretAudio control panel. I mostly use the remote but sometimes you need full function access. There is a bezel that snaps onto the controller to clean the install up.

I used expanded pvc foam sheet and a heat gun to form the corners. Wrinkle finish rattle can paint does a nice job on the inside with a little urethane glue in the corners to seal it up. Voila!

I usually make this out of 20 ga. steel but this worked so well, I doubt I ever use steel again. It needed to go in from the front and be a little flexible. As an added bonus, the plastic sheet doesn't scratch the paint.

 

ACES! That is really trick!

 

Finished the exhaust. The pictures show the rear suspension at full droop. I was able to avoid using 45 degree bends by canting my mufflers. This worked out well, I think. I am waiting on parts right now but should start it up soon.

 

Gosh, that is pretty!

Well, I started it up last week and I have been fixing a couple of wiring problems,, fixing leaks and fighting other problems. This is the worst startup I've ever had but I'm gaining on it. The rings aren't seated, so it's smoking pretty badly when it gets up to temp but it's running ok. Hopefully time will take care of that.

Now, there seems to be a transmission hiccup. The reverse clutch pack isn't fully pressurizing. Shit. At least I have plenty of time to work out the bugs.

 

I got all my interior panels made and got the parts I need to finish door assembly yesterday. So, my Upholsterer can start working on the panels while I continue to assemble and work out bugs. I love using this expanded foam PVC board for interior panels. Cuts like butter with sheet metal shears plus you can heat it an bend it.

Tranny has to come out. Sigh.

 

I like the look of that PVC foam sheet. Do you have a link to it? And what thickness do you use?

I use 3 mm and buy it in 4 x 8 sheets from my local plastics distributor, Piedmont Plastics.

I believe I can remove the tranny without removing the engine. Thank God.

A friend was supposed to rebuild it for me and he got really busy. So, he handed it off to a friend of his to rebuild. Probably a cut seal on the reverse and a stuck valve on the overdrive. They are really busy, so I will just give them time to fix it and use it in my 34 Ford. I ordered another transmission that should be hear early January. I'm not going to remove it until then.

 

Buy the "unmasked" board. It is a little less expensive.

 

Thanks for the tip, but what does "unmasked" mean?

 

Masked has a protective clear film on it, so if you were making a sign board, it would stay clean until you got ready to apply the graphics.

 

OK, I get it now. I didn't see that listed on the site as an option though. Is it something you just need to ask when you go to the store? I noticed that the store near me says they are a wholesaler. Not sure they will do walk in sales
