So it’s time to build the motor for my Model A Coupe project. I have been into 50 years starting with my 57Tbird in 1972. So I’ve been collecting parts. Found a forged truck crank about 10 years ago sent it to be cut for Chevy rods then to be nitride. High nickel 1959 292 ultra sounded for core shift and then .060 over block bored to .090 for custom pistons on narrowed Manley ls Hbeam rods completing the lower end. Heads with stainless valves and hardened seats.

  5. Very impressive,,,,,,keep those pics coming .
It’s exciting to see a Y block build,,,,and this looks like a pretty bad dude !
I like that gold color as well ,,,,and the 4/71 !
This would have been a good candidate for a complete build thread .

Fantastic! Its great to see more Y-blocks being used. I dig them.
I too got lucky and have a forged crank and high nickel 292 in my '57 wagon, but it doesnt look near as cool as yours.
And I have a 312 in my Model A PU, so I will be closely watching your build.

Are you underdriving that supercharger? That pulley looks rather large. :)

Not under driven. I’m running 2 v-belts off of the crank pulley which is essentially the same size (a little over 6 “). Working out the details as I go. It’s an adventure. Thanks for looking! MIKE

Here’s a picture of the mock up before it went to the machine shop. Bit by bit it’s getting there. 64BC91F9-884F-4940-B8AA-931830A4774F.jpeg

Progress is being made. It gets better and better. Front drive system coming together. Power steering worked out. Still no fluids yet. Distributor to get new points and then set up on the machine before final installation and wires to make and install plugs. MIKE

Any problems trying to set up the timing on it?

Steering is a custom stock car power box made in Pa. don’t think timing should be a problem the distributor cam moves to adjust the timing not only by moving the distributor, we’ll see how it works out soon when it gets to the dyno.

Nothing like a Y block. The T-Bird valve covers have to be about the best looking valve covers ever made. New Eng in Car3.jpg

If you can’t get a blower …. the next best has always been dual quads..even if you hide them under a 1956 Purolator NASCAR air cleaner 48580F31-E062-457B-9242-CA618B9F2654.jpeg 5BAB18DD-0CFA-4947-B2E5-FF9BF99AD124.jpeg
