left Denver for RT66 NSRA Nats in Albuquerque Thursday August 26, 450+ miles, left Sunday morning on RT 66 e/b to Tucumcari, NM. Monday on to Lubbock, TX for Buddy Holly Museum. went to an air show in Lubbock & they let me pull my car out on the tarmac for pics. no questions or ID show, good thing I'm not Ahmed the terrorist. left Tuesday afternoon for Amarillo. then east on 66 thru Okla. air cond quit in Albuquerque & it was hotter than hell so I made it to Okla City & bailed out. really wanted to make it to Darryl Starbirds in Afton, OK but I guess that will be another trip. I went north coming back thru Kansas. 6 days of 95 degrees or hotter, worst day was western OK when it got to 101. thermometer inside my car at 1100am showed 100. 2,180 miles total, fun trip but drove thru some terrible storms & fog
Thanks for taking us along. It has been a few years since I done the 66 trip, need to do it again before I get too old to enjoy it!
That looks like a memorable journey...thanks for sharing some of the diner moments...Hot Hot Hot...oh yeah!!
Memories of my couple of trips across R66. I see the picture of the Golden Light Cafe in Amarillo. We went there one night on our first trip in 1995 and had the best chilli ever. Not sure how I drove back to the motel that night but made it OK
Thanks for the pictures and sorry about that dang A/C quitting on you. By the way that's a nice looking 40 Sedan !
have had problems since installation, lost its charge, had it refilled in Lubbock, ran for 3 hrs, empty next morning
Excellent trip! I viewed your first post and wondered how you missed the Russel Museum, then saw pics in the second post! I never go by it with out stopping. Great place and they change some things up a little everytime I stop! You got close to Muskogee, maybe we could’ve fixed that A/C! Bones
