The greyhound on the radiator cap of my '35 Pickup was something that came with the truck installed by the PO who knows how many years ago. In the over 16 years I've had it, I have become attached to Fordo as he leads the way wherever we go. I even had my wife knit a couple of sweaters for Fordo to help keep him warm on the colder days and prevent sunburn in the summer. Over the years, many have stopped to take pictures of Fordo in full dress. Unfortunately, a week ago, after working under the car, I came up quickly and bumped my head on Fordo's left front arm and broke it. Realizing his race career may be over but having the benefit of seeing my neighbors work with three different retired race greyhounds as rescue dogs, I figured there had to be something I could do to help out Fordo. Below is a series of photos to help show the process from break to epoxy mend & splint to paint touch up of the epoxy to new soft cast and finally Fordo back out on the road again. I think I see a smile back on his face
^^ Thanks! Tried using the red shrink tubing first but it looked kind of pink and out of character. I did have some with a more red color, however it was too narrow. As it is, with the clear, you the casual observer won't see it unless they look carefully.
Years ago, I did a similar repair on a friends '34 Greyhound. I used a Dremel tool to drill a small hole in both ends of the break and cut down a small finishing nail to use as an interior pin. A little JB Weld and it lasted years...until he wrecked his '34.
^^Yes, JB Weld to the rescue. Didn’t think of the nail. Hope like heck I don’t crack up that truck as I love it so. Thinking of looking for a “new” radiator cap by problem no. Anybody could do that.
Vandenplas, Sorry to disappoint your guys but the sweater is Fordo’s only clothes. What you see is what he has.
Hello, What a great idea to give the old guy some style. Sorry about the broken piece. We know from past hood levers that break with the oddest moments on our 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. we used vise grips before we were able to get another N.O.S. Lever. Once installed, caution always played a big part of being around the front of the sedan delivery. With that cool hood ornament, the sweater is a cool idea. A couple of neighbors have had their dogs with maladies on their legs. We used to see them hobble around with a white gauze wrap. But, one neighbor used a colorful bandage to give it some pizazz. When our little dog put on an attack of a teenage coyote, he gave it his all. But the big chomping jaws just did a number on his head, neck and of all places his front paw. Our dog must have been boxing or something. But, the vet had put on a white gauze wrap for healing. Our little dog was scared out of its wits and during recovery, he kept at the white gauze on his leg. So, I used a Red flexible tape called “Rescue Tape” (pun intended) to cover his white gauze. The tape is a miracle worker and helped him ignore the healing process. He had other things to worry about, 8 stitches in the neck and 4 on top of his head. We had used the following variations on our cars and household items for some repair, and temporary relief. They may not be your style of tea, but at least it would match your cool sweater. The rescue tape is good for a leak in any hose or fitting. (hot rods or household items) They come in various colors. The thin tape is the normal wide pinstriping flexible tape to highlight various items when needed. Otherwise, our garden cart has nice taped pinstriping on it until it falls off. Jnaki The red wide tape is the normal black electrician’s tape in red. We have all used that tape in one form or another. The final one I found in my drawer is a “chrome” tape. It is almost an exact look of chrome and matches any chrome well. I had put some on my toddler granddaughter’s scooters and other items to give it some shine and style. YRMV The Red Rescue Tape at least is waterproof, stretches to adhere to itself, and matches the cool sweater.

My friend broke his dogs leg years ago and JB welded it back on, made a small cast for it out of same JB weld and painted the cast white. Everyone who looked and noticed it made a comment. It's still like that on his 33 3 window to this day. Mitch
