Good old FB marketplace…I tend to buy anything Detroit Dragway related…saw this pop up late last night and grabbed it first thing this morning..I asked the Daughters “you sure you wanna sell this” and they said we won’t do anything with it. They didn’t know what kind of car he ran, but they said he got more into stock cars and that’s what they remembered as children and teens…I cleaned it up and I’ll probably throw it in the back seat of my car along with my Detroit Dragway jacket for the local cruise night…
Awesome find! Love the jacket. Maybe somebody with track stats from 1964 can search his name and get you more info on his car, etc.
So Hollywood Speed Shop was my go to..my Old Buddy Mike “Gator” Gaydos worked there for many years..he knew what the place meant to me…mainly I liked talking to Gator….but he gave me a few things and I forgot I had this in the top drawer of my toolbox..
Cool find, great Detroit history there. I can still here the commercials on WKNR “Sunday Sunday, Detroit Dragway, Sibley at Dix Racing starts at noon, gates open at 9” and then you heard the roar of a drag race.
I used to hear the same commercial on CKLW the BiG 8 on AM... Them were the days.... Not any more....
You could still buy vintage looking jackets brand new and have whatever logo you want on those.... And your name...
What he said….so the original jackets were your standard red “spring jacket” sold at most men’s stores and worn by many in the 60’s. I found a new one…that fit me…I found an embroidery shop that could do chain stitch and were able to copy the look from a pic of an original jacket pretty closely..it’s fooled some old timers…I’m a sucker for this kind of history..love the old Lions record holder Clicker jackets..would love it if one found its way to me..but I wouldn’t spend the money to recreate it because I’d never even there..but DD has a special meaning to me, and many fond memories of growing up in the Detroit area…so for 100.00 I get to wear a cool conversation piece that puts a smile on my face Deuces…wait till you see the license plate surround that’s coming for my car…certain dealer that used to run a champagne 64 Tbolt bitd…guy named Len used to drive it..located on Mich Ave…
Right on…I was 5 years from being conceived…Dad was there a couple years after and had some from racing his bike there
How's about at the "Ford" Memories car show on Sunday the 22 of this month.... It's at the Ford World Headquarters parking lot....
I have one exactly like this that dear ol' dad bought for me in '75 when he worked for Woodhaven stamping....
Of course. Dickies still makes the Ike and there are local shops to embroider. I thought it was really vintage.
