Hi Guys! Has anyone tried one of these mag looking distributors? Was thinking of trying one? Are they good? Do they last? I drive my cars, so don't want to get stuck somewhere ! Thanks for the input! Bob
Have one in my '32 Roadster SBC powered for 7 or 8 years, 5,500 miles. It's a Taylor made one closely resembling a Joe Hunt. Fools a lot of the uninformed masses. I had to make some head scratching wiring changes on the install but in the long run it's never misbehaved. Go for one!
I had one in my 32. It just died with no warning and no visible signs of failure. I replaced it with a msd and you can really tell the difference. I like the look of it though but the tow bill didn't make me happy.
Taylor make a Magneto HEI, most likely better than a ProComp that is also sold down under. Cheap electronics.
Piece of crap! Tried dynoing a carbureted cruiser 392 HEMI with one.., it wouldn't fall out of a tree, & they get very hot inside. Put an MSD on it,& it was a whole different engine.
I'd never even try one, for two reason: 1. It's a crappy import brand. 2. It's a fake mag. Fake doesn't do anything for me. but what do I know, I run an old Mallory dual point distributor in my latest hot rod.
After you said that I realized I have used swap meet Mallory dual points in all my cars. The one in my Challenger triggers a Mallory CD box and another one has a Petronix kit in it, but the other two are still points and working great. One is a marine distributor too!
