All I can say is that when I had my 59 I had plans for it to be a lowered custom but the flintstone floorboards made me decide that it was way beyond my skill level at the time and I swapped it off for a 67 C 10 with every bell and whistle that Chevy put on a truck.

On the other hand the elkie is Lloyds and not mine so if he wants to turn it into a poser car that doesn't get driven much so be it. I should clarify that because if the plan is to set it up to race in the HAMB drags or other nostalgia drags and make some passes at the local track head on.

You guys ever rode in a speed boat where everyone sat in the back and the bow was sticking high above the water and it was hard to see what was in front of you. I think it would be the same as driving a 59 to 60 El Camino with a straight axle. If you go with the straight axle up front why not move the rear axle ahead by 6 to 8 inches. Might as well go all the way.

Gotta hand it to you, Lloyd. You have the knack :D Throw a dropped axle in that thing, a pair of coil-overs in the rear to level her up and put some horses under the hood!

Only right way to do it is put it up on jack stands in front, roll the tires and wheels you'll use under it, then pull a tape measure between them. Then you know the whole shebang with no guessing.

If you are ordering a "kit", they should be able to tell you how long of an axle you need to span the WMS to WMS length that you measured. You have the opportunity to make it perfect.

I do like this ones stance opposed to the 4x4 looking ones online.
Here is a good shot of the axle.

A Studebaker 64 Champ pick up axle is about 61 in. c to c of tire and about 29 in. c to c of the springs.

Better shot of the steering link.
Looks like the steering link I’ve installed with lift kits.
This is the oldest version of that style set up I’ve seen.

Altered and too high all the way around, I concur. Too freaky. Level stance, tall skinny up front would be cool.

  22. 50" is the longest they offer. Custom axles are available for extra money.

Since you're going for the cartoon look anyways, maybe that will be ok.

I hope you don't think I meant that in a negative way. Cartoon cars are fun.

Late to the party here. This is center to center on mine. Let me know if you need the specs on what I have. Straight axle on that El is gonna look hairy!! Love it.
*edit - 52" axle, Chevy spindles

I don't think squirrel was being a dick. Maybe you spend to much time in your emotions. Also not trying to be a dick I used to do the same shit.

Squirrel has driven some cartoon cars in the past so I believe he didn't mean to offend
