    Hello,

Our history with Doug Cook goes back to our weekly attendance and racing at Lion’s Dragstrip back in 1958-60. (this was several years before the famous SWC era) He was always in the pits working hard on his 37 Chevy and at the time, it was the C/Gas coupe/sedan class record holder.

A teenager looking for some speed secrets in the Lion’s Dragstrip pits.(film taken by James Nak)

The Tahitian Red 1937 Chevy coupe was a stand out in the pits anytime it rolled in and parked. It was hard to not go looking at the fast street legal hot rod winning everything in sight. There was always something new that made us look and remember.

By late 1959, when we got our 1940 Willys Coupe ready with our SBC build, we had ideas directly from our investigation in those Lion’s Dragstrip pits wandering days. (LaSalle transmission, Traction Master Bars, 4:11 Chevy gears changed to 4:56 Positraction gears, Moon Steering Wheel, and finned aluminum SBC valve covers. The 1937 Chevy was going to be future competition for us, although he moved to B/Gas by the time we were in C/Gas)

    Doug Cook racing total

The early days research provided information about a Corvette 283 SBC with 3 Stromberg 97 carbs, then a 4-71 blower and a new C/Gas Coupe/Sedan Class record. In between, the changing of the rear gears for better traction in an early version of jack stands… oh my!

At first I thought this might be the Harrell & Borsch A/Roadster but then I noticed the louvered hood sides. Anybody recognize the car?

Look like not wide enough and too far apart for bikes going with fuel can holders. :)

    Hello,

In those early photos posted everywhere, I saw this early Ed Losinski and Son Roadster. It has the complete look of the unknown roadster photo with the side louvers and large oval roll bar.

Thanks @296ardun for the historic photo.

All of the details can be seen in both photos and it sure looks like the same roadster at one time or another. With the top hood cover taken off, the Chrisman’s Garage paint design is gone. YRMV

^^^ Mooneyham, Ferguson, Jackson & Faust, the ‘liner never made a complete pass. The original body was aluminum and Chrisman & Cannon took it off thinking it was too heavy. Jocko Johnson layed up a new one of fiberglass and convinced the
“Jungle 4“ team to give it a try but it was found that cross winds made the car unmanageable at speed. I think Garlits has it now.

The Losinski/Reed Brothers/Art Chrisman roadster later went to the Atlanta GA-based Lowe Brothers, who ran it with the blower.
