Any know how much a 1953 to 1960 F100 front axle weighs with or without spindles ?? ....EDITED ...Any know the king pin inclination on the above axles ?? Ricky.
Thanks gr360 ! I have an F1 axle, looks like it has an 8 degree inclination with a smaller king pin Ricky.
I generally go a little more. About 5 to 5.5. I set my 49 F1 just over 5 and it drives great. I set all my straight axle cars at 4 to 5 deg.
And belaboring the obvious for most here, but the setting is relative to level, not relative to the chassis. Due to variations in the rake of the vehicle. Correct?
Older Ford trucks like to wonder. I was referring to castor and that is king pin inclination. And that to be determined with car being level to start with. Then set castor. Obviously if you have 30" tires on the rear and 24" tires on the front and set at 5 deg. you probably only truly have 1 deg. actually. And I know that is an exaggeration.
Sorry man, but no. Caster is how much the king pin/axle leans back or forward. KPI is related to camber, it is the king pin inclination as viewed from the front. @2OLD2FAST provided a diagram. It was IFS, but the principal is the same.
The info I put up there was from another forum for these trucks. Looks like I found bad info!! I looked in one of my old shop manuals but that info wasn't there.
Thanks guys My 65 F100 twin I beams have 4 degree king pin inclination The 53 to 60 100 axles have the same size king pin and king pin boss as my 65 I will get a protractor and check after I find a 53 to 60 axle Ricky.
