June 23rd 2021 Went over the block with scotchbrite cookies in the air powered angle grinder to remove all the loose paint remnants, blew it off with the air hose, then applied the PRE Paint Prep again. This time, the surface remained stable and I followed up with two coats of the Bill Hirsch Engine Enamel spray bomb. The Buick nailhead green is an acquired taste. Some have nicknamed it puke green. They put these engines in medium duty Chevy trucks from 1956 to 1959 when the Chevy 348 was introduced. I didn't research Chevy's color for the 322 because I like the green. Beer of the day was Free State Brewing Company's Oatmeal Stout.

Lowered the nose 3.25 inches using dropped uprights and one coil cut off. I love the stance :) Lowered1.jpg Lowered3.jpg

June 24th 2021 Flipped the block right side up again and finished trimming the masking tape around the head and valley cover gaskets by running a sharpie line around the gaskets and trimming just inside the line with X-Acto knife.

The paint is still tacky. The weather, here in South Florida, is muggy this week. After the top of the nailhead is painted and the masking comes off, touch ups can be made at any time by spraying a few blasts of paint in a cup and dabbing it on with a Q-Tip. Background music was the Rolling Stones It's only Rock and Roll.

  6. I put some sealer around an area that the rear windshield gasket was leaking when I went to a very wet Jalopyrama. Replaced two rotted out license plate light sockets. Then decided to drive the ol' heap to work.

I removed the mock up drive train and getting the motor mounts ready to weld in place for the second time ( the first time they were to low ) worked on some boxing where I had to cut out for the fuel pump to clear and adding some plate for some rigidity. Hopefully I will get the block to the machine shop next week. studebaker build 004.JPG studebaker build 003.JPG

My father had a dark blue 54 Bel Air it was the best car he ever owned. He put a 300 six in it with three on the tree. Some asshole stole it one night and it was never seen again.. He like the way it handled and took bumps on these old Pittsburgh streets.

Those look fantastic! I have to ask how did you do it? Just mask and polish off the overspray?

Got an early start, put the Falcon up on the tall stands. I cleaned bare the underside all the remaining original floor, and re-sealed the seams (rust free California car).

Tomorrow I will prime and paint. Next week will be undercoat.

After that, I put two for the four 3-point inertial reel seat belts in.

June 28th 2021 Plugged some more holes, PRE Paint Prepped and painted the upper nailhead block surfaces with two coats. Let the paint cure for a couple of days and mounted the block back on the engine stand. Removed the masking, cleaned the machined surfaces and wiped them with Marvel Mystery Oil.

Matt Martin, of Centerville Auto Repair, commented about the block drain petcocks and I decided to go with his practice of using plugs. The petcocks will go in the parts box for radiator spares. I got 1/4" NPT brass plugs for the nailhead and installed them with Threadlocker blue. Beer of the day is Hanger 24 Craft Brewing's Orange Wheat American Wheat Ale.

On the road after rebuilding the 3 speed. Put it in reverse by mistake a couple of times, as both my daily and work truck are 'up for 1st'. Luckily no one behind me or would have done a Toad. 3sp reverse lockout?
