End of an era for me personally, yesterday I sold my 47 Dodge Business Coupe, to a cool, fellow H.A.M.B.E.R. here in Washington state. She went to a good home ! Hope you all have a great memorial day weekend, as we remember those that defended this country!

    Hello,

Early hot rod/drag race/dry lakes racing all go together with a cool car and accessories, like a nice 1955 Ford truck. The body work, the paint and custom accessories all come from the Pacific Body Shop in San Pedro, CA. Back then, this shop was known for custom paint and a variety of flame designs. They ran their shop cars at the local dragstrip, Lion’s Dragstrip, the dry lakes and had a good reputation for their services.

The Pacific Body Shop 1934 Ford Coupe, run by Goodyear & Serpica, was a Mercury powered coupe capable of running over 120 mph. It was a 296-inch Flathead.

When we were in the staging lanes of Lion’s Dragstrip in 1958, that chopped coupe was in their lane for the Altered Coupe/Sedan class. So, it was during the time we attended and raced every Saturday. The photo is floating around somewhere on the internet or the HAMB, but cloudy days and nights make the brain work overtime.

In San Pedro, the main streets running from the inland PCH areas to the ocean at Point Fermin, were Gaffey Streets and Pacific Avenue. When we went to see friends and relatives in San Pedro, the inland route was Pacific Avenue. Most of the other times, it was the Terminal Island Freeway and the ferry crossing, before they put in the huge Vincent Thomas Bridge.

In more recent times, during our stay at the Cabrillo Beach Marina, one of the best places for Seafood was located just off of Pacific Avenue and 22nd street. The 22nd St. Landing Grill and Bar located on the waterfront.

The huge parking lot is popular for hot rod/custom car gatherings/shows.

Here are a pair of skirts that I rescued from a dumpster- I couldn't ID them so I made some garage art out of them. Hand lettered with good old One Shot. 1591929217754.jpg 1591929741368.jpg

  23. Color me embarrassed. I thought several days were friday this week. Then it gets here and I forget about the art show. I'd like to add a thought: Memorial Day is my favorite day to be an American. The fact that people die for our lifestyle far outweighs anything that the current crop of windbags has to say or do. My father was WW2. I have friends that were Viet Nam. Many on this forum are not NSRA members which is fine but I'm using this as an example. I have stood at the national anthem with people of every color and seen tears in there eyes prior to the awards show at division shows. Heart moving at it's best. My thanks to all who have served on this forum. Sorry for the sidetrack from the art show.

  25. This picture was taken from the internet. If you have never visited Arlington National Cemetery it is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.I was there only once in 1965 to chauffeur the parents of a fellow sailor killed in an incident on the South China Sea.
The only thing I can add is the view is overwhelming. GettyImages-656790536-e1531760260720.jpg
