Hey Guys. I was scrolling through one of the local buy sell sites when I came upon this. Apart from the owner not knowing it’s a Pheaton, he or she also believes the asking price is justified. It looks to loosely fall into the barn fresh category, I say loosely, as it’s condition appears to be rough to say the least. These are by far the most common and least desirable of all the Model As in Australia after the AA trucks. I have seen fully restored ones sell for little more than this so I am left wondering if the owner is really justified in asking this price. What are your thoughts ?
You are right, Seems too high, there was a running drving on in AZ for about 8500.00 You can decent examples without much work needed for less than that too. Seller is very proud of his collection. Or needs that specific amount. check again in a year and it will still be there. move on to the next one. I just noticed your AUS, still at 15K USD, nope but maybe the seller is trying to make back shipping?
In the owners defence he has since dropped the price down to $18000. It seems like good value compared with the roadster cowl listed below it.
Back in the 1980s early 90s, 28 to 34 Pheatons were hot property amongst street rodders in Australia. They were so popular a Melbourne company was selling repro versions of the 28/29s. I am not sure why they went out of fashion.
No doubt. Once I had a ‘55 Chevy PU for sale, priced it at a very nice deal. I constantly got beat up on lowering the price. I then relisted at for more $$, got beat down for what I had it priced at before. I don’t dicker too much anymore, if something I want is what I need and can afford, I pay the price. If it’s something I want and way more than I think it should go for, I keep looking. I’m you’re friend at a swap meet. You price it right and if I need it I’ll buy it. Lol
I looked at a few back issues of the Model A News looking for 1928 Model A phaetons. There are two 1928 phaetons for sale in the 2020 November/December issue of the Model A News. Both are fully restored. One is listed at $20,500 and the other is listed at $22,000. The topic car is $10,000 overpriced.
It's not. It's the most common Model A. In the old days when they were just used cars, so many were turned into pickups (especially on farms), so complete ones still with the tub section are not so common to come by. Phaeton. More commonly called a tourer here.
I missed a nice flathead powered full fendered '29 roadster back east that I waffled on sending a check (couldn't see it in person due to no-travel covid) then when I finally decided the hell with it and about to send a check, he announced he'd sold it. Perfect car not too bad price too. He who hesitates is lost.
So not rare, but hard to come by that we’re not made into trucks? By what you say, seems hard to find one intact as made. Or did I mid read your reply?
Well not exactly the same model but this one I believe is still for sale in Md . Believe asking price $25,000 .00. Picture from jalopyrama 2 weeks ago .could probably get number if anyone interested ,also older flathead powered 40s hot rod posted on the hamb 16500 but these r here and your there
Price seems high, there were 47,255 Phaetons built in 28 & 49,818 built in 1929 in the United States, add to the number there were a additional 8860 for 1928, 3701 for 1929 built in Australia. They are not exactly rare and this one is not in the best of shape. HRP
not a lot of pheaton/touring cars sold up here in snow country... i think we see as many that came here with summer folk as were sold here...
