Technical Guess that rim

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1oldtimer, May 9, 2021.

  1. Studebaker did run a 5 x 5" bolt pattern back early and I know the later 49 up trucks had that bolt pattern.

  2. But the later trucks and cars had a different style clip.

  3. Ok, I bought the one I pictured. Now I just have to find a mate........anyone else want to hazard a guess as to what in the hell this fits.

    I totally agree.:D

  5. Bump for more eyes....

  6. The makes I'm looking at are Buick, Plymouth, Dodge, Oldsmobile, Packard......seems like late 30's early 40's.

All have similar clips/face but, the windows are pushing me towards Packard and Mopars.

Packard is the only logical choice from those 5.
Lots of '30s - '50s hubcaps fit that center & clip arrangement.

  8. That's the one I'm really leaning towards. I'm still unclear as to the bolt pattern, lots of conflicting info out there. It looks like they might be the second gen 120 ('39-'41) but there's a difference between the 6 cyl and 8 cyl.

I've got a '47 Dodge coupe that I think had the same wheels on it.

I've got some 1956 16" Dodge Pickup wheels that look very similar, but all Dodge and Plymouth car and 1/2 , of that era, are 5 on 4.5", not 5 on 5.

  12. Looks like they're a '39-'41 Packard with the 8 cylinder.......99%. I have to find someone with another one to confirm the measurements. All the ones on epay for the 6 cyl have a smaller bolt pattern (5 on 4.5 ???) and a smaller center hole (2 3/4"). All the 16" Packard wheels are advertised as a 1940?. I did find someone who sold some 8 cyl wheels and I asked them some questions about sizes. My wheel is 16 x 5, 5 on 5 bp with a 3 3/8" center hole.

Let the fun begin.............If anyone has any leads or a wheel, PM me. Thanks.

I agree with above, they look like Packard to me.

  14. Worst case I can get some '39 Olds wheels like I have on my '36 (16 x 4) and re hoop them. I have to double check the center hole on those first.

    Glad you sorted it !

  17. Thanks everyone. I think it might have been easier to re drill the axle for 5 on 5.5 . But, I do dumb shit the hard way.

  18. Packard ? Hell I was close by a decade !

I’ll check my 39 Packard rims when I get to work. They do have lug bolts, not nuts. 16, 5x5. Ironically I need one too. My 39 Cadillac rims fit as well but the hubcap locators don’t fit the Packard caps.

    Wow. That is cool

  22. Another question. Anyone know what a big 4 door 39-41 Olds runs for wheels? I found some that look the part and are said to be 16x6.5 ?!?! can this be true?. Even if they're miss measuring the width that would still be around 5.5 or if they miss measured the whole thing would be a 15x5.5.
