I never broke any but I am glad some guys did. I didn't have any money to speak of when I started playing drums and wouldn't have had any cymbals if not for guys giving me their broken ones.
Drums are the one instrument I never could play worth a shit. I'm a guitar player first, but I've been morphed into an upright bassist the last few years. Always respected the drummers tho, cause they gotta move all that stuff for gigs. You know you're dedicated to do all that! Hey, you know the difference between a drum kit and a bench? A bench can support a family.... Lol.
This will be the third Sunday back inside church playing drums. Feels great ! Hope it stays this way after the election.
We went back inside for the first time last Sunday. Felt good ,but a little odd, playing my Fibes set; after having not seen them since early March. I got pretty used to setting up my old Slingy set outside every week since early July.
I haven't touched my Slingerlands for longer than I can remember. I loved my Slingerlands for years but I really love the church DW's . Our church did bare minimum parking lot music since the shut down. You are more of a man than I am. I didn't want to drag the drums in and out of church every Sunday and our sound man was glad I didn't. I haven't played outside for years. I am too spoiled to the P.A. sound. I can't hardly stand to hear my drums acoustically any more.
I hadn’t played outside for a lot of years either. I tuned the Slingerlands wide open and as low as possible ; used 3A sticks. With just a bass mic, they could hear them. It was fun, now realize how spoiled I am by leaving my Fibes set up long term inside the church!
A few years ago, we were at my favorite oldies bands one gig, while on break ; I was batting the breeze with my friend the drummer. An older guy walks up and says he would really like to see his old ‘65 kit set up on stage. Said it was a Gretsch , that he got as a kid, and asked if my friend would like to see it. My buddy being a lifelong Gretsch man , says sure... so a week later , he and I go down near Philly to check it out. Long story short, my buddy gets the kit, that was offered at about 1/5th it’s value, puts new heads on it and uses it with the group. Only problem is he’s a diehard 22”- 24” bass drum user and this is a 20” bass kit. Fast forward to about a month ago, he’s thinking of thinning his herd of 12 kits , by a few and asks if I would be interested in it, since I play 20”. Well I have never had a Gretsch, so I ended up with it, for a real fair deal. It is an uncommon wrap, that just plain shimmers under the lights, all original except for the heads, so now I am experiencing “That great Gretsch sound”!

Gretsch is great and your set is also pretty cool! I don't play myself, but my husband is crazy about drums, he has a similar one.
Welcome Still_c, post up a picture of his drums. Always like seeing Gretsch sets! Here is a brand that has similar tone to Gretsch. I have left this one set up at our church for the last dozen years, play her weekly; call it my pearly gates kit #2...
Keep 'em coming, you guys (and girls). My blue 'flaked Slingerlands are long gone but it's interesting to see what you're gathering up, refinishing and building. Now I've got to find a '60s Slingerland catalog to respark my memories.

Hey, thanks, brings back memories. The one I had showed Tito Puente on the cover. Maybe '62. Speaking of Tito, I took this photo five years ago. It was painted on the side of what I think was a defunct Latin or jazz club on Chicago's west side.
That was the first drum kit I ever owned, and I still have it sitting in a closet since 1962. I have not used it in years because today I have a Mapex kit that I really like the sound of. I started playing in 1962, and I am still playing 59 years later. Jim Hill
I'm not a drummer but have a great interest in this field. I am currently learning about home audio systems, like how do they work. I learnt so many things here and still trying to get maximum information about the speakers, subs and amplifiers. Plus, I am thinking to pursue my degree as a Sound Engineer so do you guys think that it can help me in my musical life?

Why did the banjo player stand on the porch ? -- He couldn't find the key and he didn't know when to come in.
I don't recall if it was on the radio or television. Seems it had to do with recording during early Nirvana and being told by someone in the studio his timing was off and that he should consider using metronome is the basic story as I recall. This much I do remember for sure. Dave saying that that blew his mind and was affected by it.
I've heard the same about Lars Ulrich. Keith moon as well was oft criticized for his time keeping. The drummer that kinda got me noticing him lately is tre cool. Versital af. Played some shows with Willie Nelson, obviously did some incredible work with green day. Ot for hamb era, but a really good percussionist all around.
