block doesn’t seem to have water but the intake did. :(

  2. The Stude trans and the jeep trans share the same bolt pattern and hub register.
The bells won’t swap between the 2.
The Stude bell will fit the jeep trans. The Stude bell is around 1/2 inch shallower.
The drivers side starter mount hits the firewall.
    These aren’t hard obstacles
Currently tearing down the flat 4 to see what’s bad.

You know a Buick V6 fits like a glove in these don’t you? I had two with one in them, but they were CJ5’s. Not sure your trans will handle the torque of a six though. I had a CJ2 like that one and the trans was quite a bit smaller than the ones behind the V6’s. Got rid of all my Jeep stuff several years ago.

  4. Kid wants a flat motor. Currently tearing down the 134.
Might need to locate a better core.
The t90 should be ok as long as he keeps the 700-750 tires on it.

  5. The shackles are interesting, last weekend was WWII weekend here in the St.Louis Metro area. My Wife and I took our son and his friend. WWII weekend is a live reenactment with Americans, Germans, British, French, and Italians. Most of the vehicles there were American, my son got his first ride in a 1943 Willys Jeep. Your picture of the shackles reminded me that they may not look very substantial, but they took lots of abuse.

Dodge used those shackles on their trucks for years, I think the Dodge ones were 4” between centers and the Jeep were 2 3/4”. Right and left hand threads also depending on mounting location.

  9. The flat 4 is stuck.
Going to let it soak while I figure out if the Stude 6 will work.
Clutch is on the correct side but would have to fab new linkage. Modify the firewall for starter bump clearance. The biggest is the large round steering crossmember in front. Ours is cracked and needs replaced. So building one to move the radiator forward probably won’t be much more effort than fabricating s new one.
I have located another block and found a forklift with a running continental flat 4.

  10. Whatcha soaking it with? I had an Olds block a few years back that was locked up tighter than hell. Soaked the cylinders for days with Diesel/ATF, put some heat on the pistons, pounded with a hammer and a 2x4... nothing. Filled each cylinder with Coca Cola and let sit. Next day I gave one cylinder a tap with a hammer and a 2x4 and the whole assembly turned.

May not look better in the pics but it a huge head start over the other.
Well still use some parts from the first one including the trans and t-case.

  20. The kid is excited.
His jeep 4 banger was shot when he bought it. Even the starter had rust holes in it.
I offered up several other options. He sad no.
It has to be a flathead. After a few months of searching for a complete 134 that would turn, he bought it.
Had a fun day tearing it down.

Here's pic of my son working on his '48 Anglia. I bought it for him when he was 13.
He is now 47. This car project has helped cement our relationship over the last three decades.
Father / son projects are the best, and not just because there is a finished car at the end. Its the journey together...

I had the job to rebuild an Ajax gas compressor many years ago . It sat in a pipeline RW for years . I tried everything to get it to free up , nothing . A pipeliner from the stare of Louisiana was there and ask me “ do you know what will free it up over night ? “ Naturally my answer was dynamite ! He chuckled and says the “ Coon Ass way is pour her full to the top with coke , let her sit a day and she will be free ! “ I’m like WTH , so I bought 12 bottles , that’s how long ago it was . Poured it full and sure enough free spinning in a day ! The ole boy told me I’d make a fine “ Coon Ass “ go home and work with us !

  27. Axles took apart. Except the carrier. The carrier looks good. Plan on a thorough cleaning and reseal.
Hub bearings look great. Cleaned and ready to repack.
Got the rear flange off, working on pulling the rear axles.
Ordered new front king pin bearings.

The rear had a tad bit of water.
The front was just old gear oil

  29. Hey Anthony, great project that will be loads of fun for you and your son when you're finished (plus the 'fun' while doing it).
Check over on the Garage Journal, under 'garage builds' (I think). @Zeph's Quasi Garage (?). He's rebuilt a bunch of WW II Army rigs, Jeeps included, and has posted a ton of details on them. Good luck!
