Thanks Jnaki for the SEMA date & info.
    Zane.

    Hello,
If you are trying to get a specific year, like 1960 parts for your rebuild, anything with SEMA should be dated 1963 or after. (SEMA was organized in 1963) Lakewood Mfg. was the first to design the full 360 degree safety housing in1964. Thank Joe Shubeck for any safety protocols back then from 1964.
After the initial development and marketing from Lakewood Industries, other manufacturers got on the safety bandwagon and created their version of steel 360 shields for protection. The exploding clutches and flywheels are no laughing matter and they become flying bullets if not contained.

Here's my Russ Ciphers (RC Industries) 1964 NHRA housing I just installed in my 427FE powered 64 Fairlane. DAMN heavy and thick cast, not current SFI rated nonetheless however period correct for my Thunderbolt recreation as these were installed by DST. Bead blasting made it look like new again.

This thread popping back up got me to thinking about this one. Posted before asking a few questions about it. Took the wife's bathroom scale to the basement to weigh it,while it was safe to do so ( wife at work ). No where near up to today's specs I'm sure and has been clearanced a bit by the removable bottom piece. Just shy of 27lbs of cool vintage aluminum. 20190426_062611.jpg 20210327_180854.jpg 20210327_180854.jpg

Back in the 60's I had one clutch/flywheel explosion similar as shown, junked car, reused engine, I was very lucky, only injury was crap in my eyes no loss of sight or permanent damage. After looking at the car I thought it was a miracle I had my feet. I bought the red Lakewood stamped steel scatter shield for my street race SBC and later years for a BBC Super Mod my son raced. OT question, does anyone besides me wonder how the new super cars with manual trannys, 600/700HP, I never read/hear of a clutch explosion/failure, are the materials that much better today ? In our Super Mod we ran a triple disc Ram, never failed, does the factory design in a scatter shield ? guessing computer tech figures in with traction control. Just curious, the men I know that have such a car never take them to drag strip and honestly they are afraid of their car, never get on them hard and am told never turn off traction control, we are Old Timers LOL. The most dangerous street car I got to drive was an early VIPER and there the wheelspin was outrageous, you feathered throttle through third gear, WOW ! What a ride, I see how/why most of them were totaled, definitely not a car for a novice.
