This image is getting really brutalized since I didn't save a copy pre-sectioning, I had to basically undo the section I gave the last finished product, so excuse the crudity, I am not as good at this as some others are, but here you go. Upper is the reverse section and chop, lower is the same roofline but without the sectioning.

Squablow, The idea would be to leave the rocker panels the same height as stock with the "reverse section" added to the doors. That way the rockers wouldn't look like they were worked on. Your yellow Merc looks good.

Hilton took a 30-31 roadster body and added to it for the GNRS

  14. idk about that one,,,depending on car and what it might be lacking to make it better.

I add a few inches to the bottom of my Vicky, the cowl is curved tapered from 1” to 2” and straight across the doors and rear 1/4 before the wheel. Visually the results are “appears” to be chopped more than it is and “appears” to be lowered.
Now alllllll of that came from head scratching how to actually lower the thing by moving the rear wheel arches up. That was WAY too much work.

I have a project on paper I've been working on for years - '61 Lincoln convert, 2" added to the height of the body (1 1/2" through the doors, 1/2" through the rockers) to accommodate a BIG engine and keep it, more or less, under the stock hood. Given the Lincoln is a very square, boxy car, I think it could work...

I have had this toy car body kicking around in my junk stuff for a while....kind of wondered what was up with the body...by the grill that was in it and body design I figured probably about a 46-8 Chevrolet but the body looked tall,
Well Hell...now I know , it must of been
"Reversed Sectioned" and shortened and....Aw hell I was bored...sorry 20210310_024441~2.jpeg

Like everything else, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. I wonder what people thought when they saw the first chop top. In my mind (what little that there is) I don't think the this process of "reversed section" will catch on, well maybe not right away.

Since it's all an illusion there's likely 6 ways to Sunday that'll get ya there. Personally if I wanted to "add volume" to the main body I'd look at moving trim, drop the rocker trim completely perhaps, maybe add a skin to it at most, probably not worry too much about the front and rear. No 'rule' says the front bumper has to be in alignment with the rocker panels so just some tasteful bumper mods would do. Out back a lower skirt would get it done, maybe some almost Bellflowers. I sure as hell wouldn't consider cutting the car and adding to it. It only works on section jobs because you have planes that visually line up even if you remove a couple inches. Adding those inches disturbs that. Maybe I'm rambling, out...

Back in the early days when the custom touch was removing the running boards , a 36 Ford coupe for a example, this was one of the steps in giving the car a lower , taller looking body.
There were even companies that made frame covers .
They were added to the lower edge of the body, becoming rocker panels, once the running boards were removed , it covered the frame rails and gave the appearance of a lower ,taller body. 16155687930253184005834837166176.jpeg 16155689083564225447534909070579.jpeg 16155690151193477635013479499064.jpeg 161556893207921157359123137.jpeg 16155689947175268646731224859129.jpeg

I'm not feeling it. Too much "junk in the trunk".

It reminds me of the styling cues on the cars in the movie "The Fifth Element" 5e.jpg

I assumed that based on the mooring line.:) I meant more in general, but my post does not say that well.

Overall I just am not feeling the concept. I'm not super adventurous when it comes to this stuff, so maybe it's just me?

I "created " rocker panels that rolled under hard because the owner wouldn't let me channel the body down over the frame rails. I think it turned out fine...
