Hello Can anyone identify the years of these ford drums. They came off a front axle I purchased. I am wondering if I can make these work, find a match or what can be done. I was going to separate the hubs from the drums but I’m not sure about the compatibility. I have been pouring over post and learning a ton. thanks for any help.
1940-48. They had two styles, drum over hub....hub on top of drum. both will work on 39-48 backing plates.
As @irishsteve said, both will work, same hub offset, once the wheel is on only you will know. But... there is always a but! the later one with the drum on the back side of the hub face is not being reproduced, no new drums for that type, only for the early one with the hub inside the drum.
The hub on that 48 has a really big flange which I've never seen before. Anyone else seen such a wide flange on a 48 style hub?
The one with the big flange is an odd ball. I've been doing this for about 60 years, and there is always something that surprises me...
I’ve had one will the really big flange, it fit 37-48 spindles and had a good drum at the time. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
@rusty valley , I read on the FordBarn that you could use an early Bronco drum as replacements. Did I maybe misunderstand the info? Thanks
@Budget36 thats new news to me ! I think there was some talk about using later ford drums, but on 11" F100's? maybe someone else has an answer
I could have easily misunderstood, I was searching for some information when I came across it. Never was a good speed reader
@Budget36 the early Bronco had either 10" or 11" inch drums, depending on various options. They would not be a replacement for the early Ford 12' drums.
