I’m just starting my 29’ Model A sedan project. I’m planning on a 6” chop, 3” channel on a double z’ed frame. I want a big n little look but nothing two radical. I like the look of the photo attached. Can anyone point me in the right direction of the wheel and tire size I’m looking for? Thank you. IMG_4317.JPG

Could be 450x 16 up front they do look smaller than a 500/525x16 though

wheels are likely ford 40-48 and 16x4.5 give or take half an inch. Looks about the same regardless of the extra width

  7. x2 @manyolcars tire recommendation.

Welcome to the HAMB. Is this your first pre-war hot rod?

You and your passengers will need to be *really short* to fit in the car you're planning.
Additionally, the transmission tunnel will consume a lot of foot room. Are you planning for a manual (3 pedals) or an automatic (probably bulkier than a manual)?

  8. ...........and his '29 Sedan is going to be even tighter at the cowl than the '30-'31 pictured.:D

Oh geeze guys plenty of people chop an A 6” it’s not a mini van lol

plenty of other details can make it totally driveable even though that is a heavy chop

  10. Combined with a 3" channel it's going to be tight.

Thank you guys for all the feedback. This is my first pre war hot rod. Mainly been into Tri 5 Chevys up to this point. I appreciate the advice on squeezing into the car with a 6 inch chop as well. I’m 6’3” so not too short.. Planning on an auto tranny. I will definitely be seeking advice from you guys each step of the way, this is by far the best group of hot rodders out there in my opinion. As far as wheels go I just ordered a set of 35’ Ford Wires from a fellow H.A.M.B. member. Can I run a 7.50 for the rear on the 4” inch wide wheel?

  13. I have two A's both with 6'' chops. What helped me was sitting the seats low, and rearward. It'll give will give you more head, and leg room. I don't have any channel. So can't help with that. But probably would be a tight fit to do both. As for tires and wheels. It should be the time period, and look that you like. Ron.... 151.jpg 274.jpg

Sweet looking cars Ron, I was definitely thinking that I was gonna have to run the seats low. Probably bombers or something along those lines.. Hopefully something that can be somewhat comfortable.. Excited to get the wheels here hopefully next week and then get them out to be powder coated. Going with Firestone’s for the tires, 7.50 in the back and leaning towards 5.00/5.25 in the front but still torn there.. I will keep you posted as the progress continues. Been focusing the majority of time so far on rebuilding the engine and rear end.

Thank you again everyone for the feedback.. I ended up going with 7.50x16 in the back and 5.50x16 in the front.. gave me the exact stance I was looking for. I also took the advise of not chopping the car as severe, went with 4 inches with no channel. IMG_5448.JPG

One way to get that headroom back is to put your seat pan under the frame rail. That’ll get you roughly 4 inches because your butt will be down in a hole slightly. Mine is chopped 7 inches and the seat is moved back behind the rear window cranks. 700x20 on rear 550x16 on front. ( wish I had done 18s on front) IMG_0818.JPG

While we are on the topic...

QUESTION: Can anyone please tell me if 600s will fit and run effectively under the front fenders of a stock height '29 roadster?

  23. Definitely should.
