Nah, I never did intend to convert my 36 to 3w , was just going to chop it . In any case this is my only project now.
I drew the dash out and converted it to a vector, then had a local place do an etching process they use for doing photos onto shiny metal. As I understand it the traditional etch has a flat look, and doesn’t stick well to polished surfaces . After it’s etched it gets cut out of the sheet with a cnc router. Thankfully it fit really well. It was an ordeal trying to make it right, mostly because I had to enlarge the holes on my prewar panel to fit the later gauges, so NOTHING was really symmetrical . It’s just minor little differences here and there but when you’re trying to make an accurate digital template it gets real.
I’ve barely had time to get to the shop lately, but I have been doing tiny jobs here and there on the dash. That will come back around later. I FINALLY got around to making the floor brackets and doing my trans cover. I still need to do the pedal bumper/tie in plate (if anyone has any ideas how I’d love to hear it) but looking forward to being done with the floors. I also welded the original seat holes up .
I was having a hard time getting my seat cushions done so I figured I could just make a pattern from scraps to bring to my seat dude. I got some vintage upholstery books that have awesome info about seat geometry, pleat widths and lots of other useful info about 1930s cars .
Looks like you'll have good lumbar support, that's what's missing on the Glide seat in my '32. Nice job on all the work!
I made a plate for the bottom of the floor that will sandwich some rubber and help keep fumes and BS out of my car , glad to be done with the floors ( except a few finishing details )
Once the plate was made , i route red the shape of it into the wood so when it’s got the rubber mounted the floor stays flat. Once I did all that I figured I’d macke a trim piece for my column at the floor which also would strengthen the floor pieces . I made a quick tool to find the column center. Also I’ve been busy Block sanding my dash getting ready to paint it. Along the way I wasn’t happy with the column drop extension so I made another. Lots of little jobs happening
Well not much has happened since the last update. I moved to Oceanside California , now I’m in a race to beat the rust! Before I left though I got my windshield frame back from chrome plating.
Sorry if this was brought up already, but what tire sizes are you running? Love the look of what ever combo you were running when you were testing out how the tire fit in the fender.
Started taking the car apart to get it at least put in primer. . Then I installed the outer door handles. Wasn’t too difficult, I’d already made the pilot holes.
Your project is looking great. Lot's of neat ideas and craftmanship going on there. FYI, this dash example is 31 Cadillac... I have that same dash in my 32 closed cab pickup. Neal
Filled a million holes in the firewall, then addressed the taillights. Marshall Woolery made these rad mini E+j taillights. I made some filler panels and got them all set up. Follow along.
