I have a buddy that is building a 1952 Buick mild custom. He is trying to figure a way to convert the hood to a normal opening configuration. Has anyone done it? If so, what hinges and such did you use. Thanks, Gene,

I think Buick went to the rear hinge in 53 and the hoods are similar so if you can find a salvage yard with classic cars you may be able to use the 53 hinges. A couple of salvage yards in my area are Johns Auto Salvage in Cabool, MO and Perkys Auto Salvage in Coffeyville, KS and at one time both had some old Buicks.

Yes the Buicks in ‘53 have the hinged front opening hoods. I can’t tell a lot of difference in the ‘52 and ‘53 cowl or hood on the Special series, so a conversion should be pretty straight forward. I have one of each A3EFC950-0612-464B-B2FD-CE87679A2713.jpeg D22908BC-0D14-4CF8-A77E-0BEE61A6A2C9.jpeg

Since Olds used similar bodies that could be another source for hinges.
