Hot Rods V8 Rear end in an A.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris Haynes, Jan 28, 2021.

  1. I am thinking of putting a V8 rear end in my 1930 A Tudor. I know I have to relocate the spring perches. My question is will the V8 driveshaft bolt in without shortening/lengthening?
    What year would be preferable?

the wheel base determines drive shaft length, model A is 103 inches the first v8 ford the 32 was 107 inches. so no you can't put a closed v8 rear end in a model A without cutting the driveshaft and torque tube. the easiest shaft to shorten is the 33-34 ford shaft.i've done several of them but alway's swapped that not so good model A tranny for the better v8 tranny.

also, the v8 diff center section is larger diameter, and the flange for the torque tube farther to the front. my point is, you can not copy the A torque tube length, you need to do your own math to get what you need
