Just put these caps on my Merc , gives it a smoother more classier look Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
First, let me assure you, I like your car and the wheel covers very much and I am a long time Mercury fan. That is my ‘regular guy ‘ comment. However, being cooped (couped ?) up indoors today to stay warm and dry, my alter ego, Mr. Mischievous, happened to notice the similarity of the ‘54/‘55 Olds wheel covers....... The upside is that both makes have a nice similar choice correct for their rides.
Are these caps worth much? I saw 2 at an antique mall for 20. They are in nice condition Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
‘56 models had an optional spinner wheel cover, or maybe they were standard on Montclair, but they were the same as OP’s cap with the addition of a bolt on 4 bar spinner. Ray
I always thought the hubcaps I had were 56 Mercury but now think they are from a 63-64 Ford R-code car.
Well yea depending on their condition I’ve seen them go for over a hundred bucks a pop, like anything else I guess Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Is a ‘R’ Code a 427? The cap matches the ‘63/‘64 Galaxie with 427 engine which apparently had 15” wheels. Looks like Ford drew on existing parts to make a unique blend for that model. Ray
I bought a new R code Galaxie in '63 and it had poverty caps. Maybe the fancy caps were on the Galaxie 500 XL? The wheels were 15".
A while back I noticed the same. For some reason could not keep my 56 merc hubcaps on my wheels. They’d fall off before leaving the driveway. I had 55 merc caps on the same wheels before with no problem. When I noticed merc and olds caps were similar, I removed the spinners from the merc and put them on the olds. Thousands of miles and no problems.
