OK people school me in on wiring a S/W gas guage toa stock sending unit from a 53-56 ford f1 do I need a resistor if so what do I need ???
corn fed is right , the sender has to match the gauge. stewart warner fuel gauges use a sender that has 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full. take a meter and see what your sender is..i believe it is 73 empty and 10 full
Also, you didn't say as to whether you're running 6 or 12 volt. If you're running 12 volts and end up using the stock gauge. You must lower the voltage to that gauge. Check out the 6 to 12 volt adaptation tech.
O n the original fuel guage for a 56 ford truck there are two connections on the back which one is ignition and which one is battery? thanks for your help
Two terminals on the back of the gauge. One goes to the sending unit. The other one is for power, thru the ignition switch and probably thru a voltage regulator. So, one for power and the other for the sending unit.
I guess my question wasn't right. I need to know which stud is battery and which stud is sending unit.
Ghost, here is a couple of pics of Stewart Warner Gauges, early and later styles with stampings of wire connections...
@Ghost28 Next time start a new thread instead of adding on to an unrelated 16 year old thread. Looking at the back of the gauge the sender is the outer terminal.
