  1. for the rear lower support I bent up a rear beam. we wanted it to be a bolt in so I made a couple connector pieces to join it to the sides.
    more tomorrow. IMG_1568.JPG

  7. I started to fit the tail gate. I used a saw-zall to cut the sides down and the bottom off. IMG_1570.JPG IMG_1571.JPG

  8. ok so which way should I finish the tailgate edges?
one way would be to put the original sides supports back on, weld a pipe across the bottom, use the original hinges and "belt buckle" style chain latches. IMG_1575.JPG IMG_1576.JPG IMG_1577.JPG IMG_1578.JPG

  9. or, fabricating an angle edge around the perimeter, make a hinge at the bottom of the "strap" detail and use corresponding tabs on gate and bed side to hook a chain.

    opinions?

Oh well chains for sure! The 2nd idea pics look best. I’m a fan of the one solid shaft across the bottom like my wide bed. It has three pivot points though across the tail gate. Are you gonna weld on something to the lower edge of the gate to make it official?

  11. Second choice! Looks like it should, not so much with the pipe thing. JMO
The first one the pipe looks like a tractor should be pulling it.
The second one is much cleaner looking.

[IMG] Is that the weld around primer? Do you like it? STYLE B on the tail gate if you are counting votes. Is this ok, or can I mail in a few more?

TB I like the 2nd setup...One thing which is talking to me is the logo which looks to be unbalanced (too low) which is due to the trimming...

For all I know you may be planning to trim the logo out and splice a period script in its place but either way an upward reposition is in order...(vertically centered or a tinge higher than centered)

The addition of a pipe/angle and hinge will help balance the logo however it may not be enough...you will know as eyes are amazing at sensing balance...just as the smaller side tubing looks better than the heavier original as my eyes sense a better balance in weight almost immediately...again great job your doing...;)

    Option 2 for sure.

  16. yes it is weld around primer. but you have to scrape it off where ever it gets welded to keep it from splattering.
    vote early, vote often.

  17. I like the second choice better and it will get an angle all the way around the sides and bottom. I think it will look more model A "like".

  18. I was going to leave the letters low and maybe add "something" above them. V8 logo maybe?

Sorry, I don't think that will look right! It would be best to have the lettering centered just like Ford did it originally.

  22. Agreed, if you leave it low it will look like you just chopped off the bottom.

I guess depending on the Hokey Ass element of this build as this is a bit of a Sanford style Truck with the weathered paint and Garage Door sign on the doors...perhaps some cleverly thought out signage could be put in that void and truly balance the Ford Lettering.

...Good fooling...That might work in same Font as Ford on that gate...it pulls it up...or AV8 or V8 in a nice script with some striping

  27. I tried to match the block style of the "ford". I like the idea of AV8

It helps, but if it was mine, I would want the "FORD" to be centered
