My 8 year old Grandson told me he wanted a 32 roadster. I told him he can have mine. He said no he wanted to help me build one. These are the virtual instructions I am sending him with step by step instructions. No explanations needed for you guys other than some of the parts I will be using. Rat's glass body. Hope to change to a Dearborn Duese retractable later. Built up 365 Cadillac engine. F150 4th OD trans. 6 pin Nance mag wheels. 301 QC. 38 tube axle. Not sure which intake I will end up using. 2020-12-27 15.13.30-1.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-2.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-3.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-4.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-5.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-6.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-7.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-8.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-9.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-10.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-11.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-12.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-13.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-14.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-15.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-16.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-17.jpg 2020-12-27 15.13.30-18.jpg

lesson #2. Because I am not using a dropped axle I built these kick ups to get the chassis down. It will also require an adjustable suicide spring perch similar to my 29 pictured here. 2021-01-04 11.09.08-8.jpg p1010058_0020_0091.jpg

Those open brakes are cool. Are those produced? Custom made?

They were manufactured by Frankland Engineering. They were cast out of material F E called Almag. They also made them HOT ROD Chassis-custom one of a kind. 006.jpg out of steel .

I don't care for the C notch for rear axle clearance so I trimmed the bottom off of my frame on my own 32. I use 10 ga. for boxing material and broke 90 degree 10 gauge for the extensions. Very strong. We will be using 16" X 9.5" Nance magnesium wheels so I will need more clearance to retain the same stance as my 32. Just had to change my flame cutting pattern a little. The magic maker is on an ASC boxing plate for comparison img453.jpg img452.jpg 2021-02-11 20.55.39-1.jpg 2021-02-11 20.55.39-2.jpg 2021-02-11 20.55.39-5.jpg 2021-02-11 20.55.39-6.jpg img114.jpg

This black 32 is my first hot rod build. Since then I have been installing the engines level. I have the intake carb surfaces milled so the carbs are vertical. Looks so much better in MY eyes. And on my 32 I lowered the grille shell 3/4". Looks so much better in MY eyes.

Nice job. I have a long term 32 project. I was playing around with seating position. I'm 6'4", my wife is like 5'6". When I got the seat where I wanted it, she couldn't even see over the cowl!

Virtual lesson # 3. Installing boxing plates. I like to use 10 gauge. I like to fit the plates with almost no over lap so I can grind a nice rounded edge without weakening the weld. If I run into an area that is flush I'll be sure and grind a bevel and fill it with weld. If you look close you will see what I mean. I had the plates sheared 20 years ago when I built my 1st 32. I made a vertical wedge cut at the firewall. Some say it is to kick the front up. I say it is to kick the rear up to get my 4 degrees of rake. The front of the frame will be near level as will the engine. I will brake some material 90 degrees for the frame behind the elongated C notch. 2021-05-09 20.00.25-1 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-2 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-3 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-4 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-5 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-6 - Copy.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-7.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-8.jpg 2021-05-09 20.00.25-9.jpg

Built the center X. Off the jig now. Positioned the mock up engine and trans. to fabricate the engine 2021-11-05 22.03.58-1.jpg 2021-11-05 22.03.58-4.jpg 2021-11-05 22.03.58-7.jpg mounts. Setting at ride height. Rails pinched and kicked at the firewall. The front is level. The engine is level. The intake manifold is milled so the carbs are vertical. From the firewall reward the frame has 4 degree rake.

Email to Max. I explained the purpose of the Panhard bar and the ladder bars. PS; I use Corvette rear spring rubber mounts for my engine mounts Compact and very hard. 2021-11-30 20.34.44-1.jpg 2021-11-30 20.34.44-2.jpg 2021-11-30 20.34.44-6.jpg 2021-12-14 10.35.46-4.jpg 2022-03-22 20.21.37-2.jpg

Being in a big hurry to start the frame [ boxing ] I forgot to think about the body bolts. I came up with this idea. Flanged lock nuts. Very thin flange and tapered. $10.00 for a bag of 50. Drilled almost all the way through with a 3/4" drill. Stop drilling when the bottom of the hole is very thin and pound the nut in. It is now secure and flush for tach welding. About 10 minutes to do 3. 2022-06-01 10.18.39-1.jpg 2022-06-01 10.18.39-2.jpg 2022-06-01 10.18.39-3.jpg

Because I will not be using a dropped axle I built a tall adjustable front suicide spring perch to get the car down. I will be building a sprint car type axle. 2022-05-15 21.56.37-5.jpg img505.jpg

I will be using a 1932 Studebaker grille shell. I like the art deco ribbing around the opening. I will narrow it down to 32 size maybe even 1" narrower. I will retain that small opening in the front for some sort of a logo. Hope to chrome the shell. Then paint it with just the art deco chrome ribs 2004-01-01 00.01.54.jpg 2004-01-01 00.06.08.jpg 2004-01-01 00.06.28.jpg showing. The tail lights are 1951 Olds 98.
