So I’ve decided to convert my 3 speed on the tree y block truck to an automatic with a c4 auto . I’ve tracked down an original 1956 automatic column from a doner 56 , what else is needed to get it all put together for smooth sailing ?? can I still use my peddle box if I remove the clutch peddle ? will I need an automatic steering box or can I use my one that’s currently on it ?
Greetings, this is what I used to eliminate the clutch pedal. 1953-56 Ford F-100 Brake Shaft, For Automatic (midfifty.com)
I dont think there is any different box for an auto versus standard transmission. I replaced my 56 box with a 55 box in an automatic F-100. The 55 box was from a stick shift truck.
The steering Box itself is the same between auto and stick. Take the rubber clutch pedal pad off and drop the arm to the floor and cover it with the Carpet and forget about it. No need to cut or change any of it.
Thank you . Irish mike I’ll be keeping the parts for now . Does the indicator need a light ? Nutral safety switch hard to connect ?
Something to look into before you install the new column. The index dog and stops are often worn down to almost useless due to drivers not lifting the handle to shift gears. It's often just a pull down motion. Now the time to fix it if yours is worn bad, It's just a little weld and file job and you'll be glad you did it. At that time you can also file a little more travel so you can actually get your C-4 into first gear. This is often what the shift index looks like. This unit is nearly worn clear through and useless to hold in gear. It can be fixed and is a lot easier before you install it.
What auto did you convert to Fresh hops ? thanks piston broke I’ll keep that in mind I’ll try that trick
I installed a 4L65E behind a LQ9 which is a the LS motor with a cast iron block. I wanted to put a coyote in but it was at least twice the cost and didn't even have half of the support from the aftermarket.
