What an unusual two tone paint scheme on this 1956 Chevrolet convert. Must have looked very awkward from head on. 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
Ever read the story about finishing the arch in St. Louis? The alignment was of by a few inches so the engineer waited until the sun came up next morning to heat it up and sprayed water on the opposing side to cool it. Twisted right in place.
And now... The rest of the story. From the Pantagraph, Bloomington, IL, September 14, 1947: Clem Gibson became a pretty successful stock car racer in the Bloomington area in the 1950s; from what I could glean from the Newspapers site, he passed away sometime between 1990 and 2005.
No i hadn't. i worked in st louis in 97-98 on the federal courthouse. it was a month solid in advance to get a ticket to go up in it. like the statue of liberty, there are more wanting the experience, then room to push em thru. i watched a neat documentary on the golden gate. the last chord pins on the two suspended deck halves had to wait until 4 pm to be slipped in. the sun did the work, and at slightly after 4:00 in it went. Some engineers are amazing, others just remember and regurgitate by rote.
