KOZY KAMPER early pop top tent trailer

Discussion in 'The Antiquated' started by Hitchhiker, Nov 15, 2020.

  1. So I've got this old pop top tent trailer known as a Kozy Kamper....Research indicates mid 30's to 1940-41 production. I guess I'm gonna restore it to tow behind my pickup? Not really sure yet.... Just had to have it.

Dang that's cool. I can smell the dank, musty canvas. :D
I spent many a summer night camping all over Washington in a canvas tent that same color.

    Asbestos floor tiles... vintage!!

That thing is just plain killer.

Edit: upon further study, that floor may be sheet goods? The pattern is neat, and at first glance looks 8x8 school house tiles. Either way, it's worth saving.

I don't know.... the floor looks like its painted on to me. Could be sheet flooring.

  9. Really cool! That will be a fun restoration. I am surprised at the condition of the mattresses not appearing to be rodent infested...
You need a friend in the marine canvas business!

  12. It's been inside a long time. Actually doesn't smell that bad. Which is a huge surprise to me!

    Wood framed with steel skin

seems like it is 1 piece. Nearest i can tell, this thing is VERY ORIGINAL. The orange interior paint is original for sure. Plans are to preserve it as much as possible.

Luckily I live in Seattle and we have plenty!

As I'm sure you've already found out there's some great info on these.
They cost $332-$385 when new and the average American was making about $475 a year.
    Pretty crazy to think about.

That thing is neat! I remember the first camper my Dad bought back in the 50's, it was one a guy built from the plans from a Popular Mechanics magazine, it was pretty cramped for two adults and two kids. The next year Dad bought us a new Serro-Scotty camper and we loved it.
    Good luck with your restoration!!
