Hi all, like the title says I'm picking up an early econoline on Monday. Saving it from the crusher. Problem is the front straight axle is missing. It will be put on my trailer with a loader, and most likely skidded off. What are my options for a replacement front axle? Thanks in advance.
What’s wrong with buying another econoline axle? Were the wheel wells cut or is that rust? Cause if it’s rust, my guess is an axle is the least of your problems. Good luck!
Its rot. I'm in New York state, honestly for a 60yo vehicle from here it's not that bad. The plan is to cut some wheel arches from another car and graft them in. Finding another econoline axle nearby isn't going to happen...
Old telephone company van. Simplest option as another first generation Econoline axle. The straight axle Econolines did not like to track in a straight line. Might want to consider a little more camber when you install the front axle.

My guess is that 1967 specs are the best to use for all years. I'll keep checking into that. Are they different from the solid axle used in Ford pickups to 1964? I know they were a lighter vehicle but did they bother to make a new axle for them? If no front axle can be found would a Ford Crown Vic front suspension be too wide?
I built a 62 pickup about 18 years ago. 302 auto, and ranger 8.8. At that time nothing available for brake up grade. Handel okay but brakes where not much. Replacement factory spec springs and aftermarket tube axle with Ford or Chevy spindel's and aftermarket disc brakes would be quick, easy and much more available than original GASSER desired pieces . i think the econoline axle is a bit wider. i had an army buddy who was going home to an early falcon gasser project and he told me the e-100 axle was way too wide. i had an ex-coca cola truck, a '67. came with a 170, stick and 4.10 gears. i swapped in a 250 (maverick, etc.) and it hauled ass. put in a 3.50 third member so i could do highway driving. transmissions for the small 6 have a very low first gear...

Different folks like different stuff. That’s what makes the world go around! I personally like the newer side of the rules, hence my car in my avatar. I also have a station wagon of that year. BUT, I appreciate the older cars too. Especially the 34 Ford. The most beautiful car ever made! Sometimes folks get what’s available. Most of the older cars are out of my price range! And .. oh... I built and still have a 1960 Econoline, with a 200 cid six and 3 speed overdrive and a 4:11 trac-lock nine inch. So I could be biased. But a T- bucket is in my future.....I hope! Lol Bones
The springs are still there. Then that axle without springs I posted might still be available. They dropped price to $100. Old ad. I bet they might just give it to you if they still have it. Especially if you show them what you would be using on . IMHO.
