Sounds like someone is itching to stamp the JJ from HI . You can always put the swatch under glass to make it last forever in surfboard form.
That certainly could have been part of the Postwar legacy...Postwar Trade and Restitution Agreements... I'd say you done Good with your research despite additional questions and look at those Trade Ins in front of that Grand Dealership......TB will like that...Hauling All that Iron way out there back in the day with many of them becoming Hotrods...Imagine that Stat...How many Fords out of that Dealership became Hawaiian Rides we revere...there certainly are a few... Thanks for sharing...
Interesting path you found to explore! Resourceful people made up the greatest generation. Hopefully someone can post a picture of the converted clock radio.
A good friend of mine lives Aina Hiana, Hawaii, and went to school with and is still friends with Alan Pfluger, the son of the owner. He races trophy trucks and had a few auto dealerships. I be the he knows the history first hand. I'll call my pal Ryon today and see what I can dig up. Ryons family goes back hundreds of years in Hawaii and he is quite the historian. http://hamakuatimes.com/heritage-center-news-p1414-136.htm I restored the Chevy Sampan for him a few years ago. Stay tuned. @Ryan
That's pretty cool. Does anyone know if there's any junk yards on the islands that may have a few of these old fords in them?
Jimmy Pfulger was a friend of Ray Brock’s and frequent visitor at Hot Rod magazines offices at 5959 Hollywood Blvd. You might try to contact Dick Scritchfield as I think he is still in the area for more info.
Ah Hawaii! This is the first year i couldn't go due to COVID...the other years I couldn't go due to lack of funds. Cool fabric swatch, it would make a cool hat band.
Somewhere in my failing memory, I believe Jimmy Pfluger had a custom built roadster, possibly Ardun powered. Was a feature car in a magazine or two. Mick
...here ya go Otto... Pflueger albeit an employee had some milestones in Go Fast in 64 and did in fact race himself it seems... He met with an unusual anomaly in misfortune with a Dam Collapse with some perishing in the aftermath unfortunately and served time for it...and was released and lived the rest of his life out leaving Terra Firma at 91... ... Despite a little bit found here and there there is much more to this story I'm sure...I suppose it's Pittam's history that would provide some more Fruit on the Loom...I wonder what Pflueger is sitting in in obviously better times...
I see,...that Fabric is Dated 55 so it would have been newer Leadership perhaps at the Helm...and it seems another in the Pflueger clan got into some shady business...however that may have no connection to the Dealership and topic...
The clock radio sounds like one of those things you would see at a swap meet table with a cardboard story next to it and you would pass it up in a Jiffy saying what a Hair-brained story. I will keep my eyes peeled for one.
In a Historical manner was this Company being congratulated in Honalulu of Japanese origin, roots or relation? This Ad above is prior to this Swatch but may explain a connection... I am interested in this story so thinking of trade I was wondering about a trade connection to Japan which obviously is plausible and related and was probably strained in some way in 1955 but may have had a previous historical pre war relation to immigration and trade in Hawaii...as business men Pittam did business in Hawaii and they served The Community in Auto/Farm and other Services and enlisted The World in better times when it was open for business I suspect... I'm wondering if Pflueger had a connection to the Fabric you Hold...I did find evidence he was a manager in Sales so maybe... I did find other that Pflueger was into Go Fast and found some footage but lost the link...will share later... Albiet a long video Pflueger is part and very notable in the World of Go Fast... and I still wonder did he have a part in that swatch? Credit to Videographer, Owner
