After The Round Up I Drug Out The 48. I Am Getting Started With The Suspension But I Am Looking For Suggestions On The Chop. Looking To Take About 3 Inches Out. Maby An Angle Chop. If You Have Done A 41-48 Sedan Send Me A Pm. I Would Like To See Some Pics.
Dont chop that. Lower/Paint/Wheels and Tires/Interior, then drive it. Those dont look right chopped, plus it saves you a ton of work.
check some of these out.http://www.carnut.com/show/00/spf/nat072.jpg http://www.carnut.com/show/00/pbo/nat599.jpg http://www.carnut.com/show/01/lou/nat193.jpg http://www.carnut.com/show/02/lou/nat390.jpg http://www.carnut.com/show/01/spf/nat141.jpg http://www.carnut.com/show/01/spf/nat142.jpg I'm not at home, so I can't downsize them to post here...sorry. I love the grill on the blue one, but chop wise, I like the black primer one, although not to fond of the rest of the car. I found these as I was thinking of chopping my 48 also.
I think angle chops look '80's "STREET ROD". Or worse, if radically angled '70's "CARTOON CAR" Bring it straight down on the B pillar, and angle the windshield, or bring it down and forward and relocate the B pillar in the top sit stays straight up and down. then section/cut and flatten the contour of the area about a foot above the back glass lean the whole trunk lid and fram forward by shortening and recontouring the rear fenders as needed. Or, as suggested, just lower it and drive it. Seems everyone today wants to chop their car before they even get the chassis done and running... That's NOT what was commonly done in the era now being "traditionaled" Chopped tops on round topped cars were as rare as hen's teeth. In fact, I bet people now think they all got chopped because of all the chopped cars in the old magazines. The fact is, probably every car that EVER got chopped got in the magazines, just because it was such a rarity!
I agree with Muttley. Lower it and drive it. I'm not chopping my '48 because I have yet to see *any* 42-48 Tudor that looks good chopped. The 42-48 Tudors have that 'fat lady's ass' look in the rear and chopping it makes it look even worse. -Bigchief.
i agree with kirk they look cool stock height anyways if you haven't done one be afraid be very afraid!!!!
Chopping a fat fender is very difficult...not impossible. It’s difficult to maintain the proper crown in the roof on a sedan because of the length of the roof. Many times the chop make the roof look flat or too much chop makes the roof dis-proportionate to the lower body. It’s a challenge to get it ‘right’ and when it’s wrong- there’s no hiding it with paint or chrome.
Leave it alone. I’ve very rarely seen one that looks good chopped. I had a long door coupe for about 30 years and it was always a beater. I always wanted to use the back half of a short door roof and make a three window. I saw one at good guys Pleasanton and it had some really kool lines.
