Finally after months of waiting I picked up my 50 Olds and brought her home last night. Hopefully license and insurance today, and cruising this evening! IMG_1547.JPG IMG_1548.JPG IMG_1549.JPG IMG_1550.JPG IMG_1554.JPG IMG_1558.JPG IMG_1557.JPG IMG_1560.JPG IMG_1561.JPG

I may be mistaken, but it looks like '49 tail lights.

The 1950 Olds 76 (not 88) had two-piece windshield and '49-style tail lights.

Super nice. Enjoy. A 50 Olds was something I've always wanted since high school.

Great find! My earliest memories of a fast car are of my Dad's buddy that had a hopped up 50 Olds coupe.

A little less altitude and a date with a buffer will make a world of difference

    Another nice one. Enjoy.

  19. Does that Model 76 come with the flathead 6 or the ohv V8?
Some of us consider those early V8s to be the first factory muscle cars.
    Have fun!

Where was it? Stored somewhere, etc, or did you recently purchase it?

The ‘49 Model 76 continued with a six cylinder engine, as it had been for some time, but with a difference. It was called the “Big Six” as it had it’s displacement increased from 239 to 257 cubic inches upon introduction of the Rocket 88. Before the V8 Olds, the senior models were powered by flathead straight eight engines of......257 cubic inches! The Big Six was, in fact, a pretty healthy displacement for a lower/medium priced six cylinder model in that era.

Nonetheless, if I recall correctly, the Big Six was only available for ‘49 & ‘50, after which the model 76 was discontinued. Even the Model 88 (same body but V8) was only produced in two and four door post sedans in 1951 as the new Super 88 was introduced for ‘51 with an new body shell.
