I know that this has been done, and covered on the board. I am only finding a reference to a reference, and not the actual information. My search skills are letting me down today. Does anyone remember which modern wheels give the donor parts?
I don’t know how to bring up the thread but if you put in wide five widening By rusty rocket you can see how I went about it.
I'll have wide 5's on my Chrysler coupe, I did some research before I found some military 18" x 5" ,wide 5's for the rear. I found a company on the web that specializes in old repop tractor wheels. They sell just the hoops. They had an 18" hoop that would fit a 16" wide 5 center. Of course you would need to drill out the rivets to use the centers. I believe they had hoops for 16" also. I actually seen a conversion and talked to the guy that had them on a Model-A pickup rod a few years back. He worked for an Implement dealer and tracked down the source, he gave me the info. He ordered the hoops and welded the 16" wide-5 centers to them, worked perfect like they were made for them. I believe they offered various widths. He used the hoops to convert his 16" to 18". As I mentioned they had hoops for just a 16" also. I would have to dig the info up, have it somewhere!
So, here's one from the "you had one job" department. I have the local yard send over two steel Dodge Caravan wheels. They sent one steel, and one alloy one.
To the credit of the yard, they simply refunded the cost of the wheel, and shipping. They were very apologetic.
