I got a set of made in China american racing torque thrust 2 wheels for my 1955 T-Bird today. the car is red. what color is better for the brake drums, red or black? Pictures when I get them on the car.

This is a new twist on "What color should I paint my wheels".

I like black, accent colors can look good. but do you really want to draw attention to the drums?

Black or dark grey would be my go too if not leaving them as cast

I painted my drums using Eastwood’s cast color. Lots of humidity here, so keeps them looking new without getting flash rust on them.

Black. You want the background to disappear, so the stuff in the foreground looks vivid.

Same with painting radiators, radiator supports, and the body panel behind the grill...

  9. Definitely black

Matte or flat black, you want the wheel to pop, not the brake drum.

I was told by a winning circle track racer that flat black pulls heat from the engine...
wouldn't that help brakes if true ?

Black, or as cast with a clear coat to keep them from rusting.

If they are finned drums, paint them black and red pinstripe on the edge of the fins.

  16. Red looks too much like Brembo and you don’t want to be confused with that crowd. Not that there’s anything wrong with stopping on a dime, unless your in the vintage car behind.

    Black, make them disappear.

Thats a good looking car, lets see the rest.

My opinion - even painted brightly painted calipers look cheesy, rice racer. Yeah I know its factory on Vettes, doesnt make it less goofy.

Has to be black or a very dark cast gray color would look cool too. Just so it’s darker than the wheel center.

It does. But more than likely you’ll never get your brakes that hot.

I used VHT caliper paint. Painted a couple years ago. Seems to be holding up well.

A friend bought brand new shiny RADER wheels in the '60s, for his silver '60 'Bird.
Painted his drums bright Fiesta red...I asked if he was entered in the circus parade...
He scoffed, I talked him into letting me do a drive by.
He took the car home and painted the drums black!

    Yup, go with black anyway!

  28. High temp flat black paint
But for a twist in all this, use a glow in the dark clear over the black. Should surprise your friends.
But you may not have any after that ricer move.

  29. I steal a can of "cast blast" from my buddy's machine shop every other time i go in there lol, he has cans sitting around everywhere. Looks good on brake parts
