Hi everyone I've got a walker c-487-2 cobra rad in my model A and I want to go down to the local parts place and pick up the pressure cap for it, what car should I tell them it's for. Thanks in advance, Phil
If your running a recovery tank fill the rad to the top. If not leave 1” down. I run a Coolcraft modern 3 row which can stand 29+ psi but a mid 50’s engine and heater so I use a 7 psi cap, a 170 thermostat, and no overflow tank. Never overheats in heavy traffic and 95* days. The rest of the system is in excellent condition. Fan shroud, 6 blade mechanical fan, and correct diameter water pump pulley.
You will also want to think about the effect of higher psi on the water pump(s). Newer/rebuilts with better seals better able to hold a higher pressure than the older originals.
Unfortunately the only thing you find on there website is is a listing for their caps at $24.50 each, of course this is before exchange, shipping and brokerage. Because of the border closure I had to limit my US orders. Phil
Phil, I was referring to a pressure designation (15-18). Once you know that, find your preferred cap, whether standard or a custom one.
For what it's worth, I used Walker's recommended cap pressure and blew out the seal on my water pump. I'm using a cap with the recommended pressure for my engine (service manual) now and all is well. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There was a batch rad cap cups*,that were about 1/8in. deeper then normal and many of those used on fuller neck add ons to replace hose inlet of SBC intakes for cap above thrmostat. There were extra deep caps made that fit them. Other wise a spacer had to be used. That weird thing happen around 20+ years back.
