Taillights and brake lights work. Even the original brake light switch is working.

I got the seals installed on the front end and got everything greased. Went to adjust the valves again and discovered that I was missing a pushrod on #5! Pulled the intake and discovered I was missing a pushrod on #2 and it popped both lifters out and bent and broke both push rods! Reinstalled the lifters and new pushrods and readjusted valves and noticed my rocker studs are pulling out of the heads! So parts on order and maybe I will have a smooth running merc next weekend.
    Never had that happen.[IMG]

Wow, that is some pushrod carnage. I've seen them bent like spaghetti but never break in two like that, crazy.

Got to check and see if I got two stuck valves. That wasn’t what I thought I would find when I pulled the intake.

Nothing yet. Slowly getting ready to pull engine / trans to fix all the leaks and do some head work. Working on addition on the house and that taking all of my time currently.

This is a fantastic build thread. Great chop on a '51 using the '51 rear window.

Thanks! It’s taken a long time to get it this far. Hopefully it will be repaired and finally able drive it this summer.

It’s taken awhile to get time to work on the merc, but the motor is on its way out to get fixed. IMG_8525.JPG IMG_8526.JPG

And the motor will come out without messing with the hood.

  16. That's a long read! haha Looking great.... So, there's no intension of painting? Going for the surviver look?

  17. I wanted mine to look like it was done 50+ yrs ago....now, it does, and i HATE IT! haha Gonna have the paint all redone with clear. Kick myself for not clearing it when I had the flames done.

Higher priorities trump others. Nice build

This is the color. IMG_8552.JPG IMG_8551.JPG
I had the idea to maybe go light instead of dark, but I like the dark green more in the merc.

Yeah it’s just temporary. But the way it’s going, I may just paint it.

  24. Well don’t that beat all....a color in the ballpark right out of a spray can! Thanks!! Mine is all dark green now, and of course, I’ve already redone the top half of it and resprayed it the dark, but I’m thinking of skipping that step and rather than finishing it all in the dark just going ahead and painting it the two tone now.

My first merc had a 67 283 in it. It ran and performed very nicely. It also had 4.11 in it but I think it will do fine with the 3.31 rearend ratio...
