These front 40 brakes are squeaky and practically new. Is there a trick I don't know about to eliminate the dang squeak? Thank you, Guy
Could be several things... Were the drums turned? Did you lube the metal part of the shoe that touches the backing plate? Might try adjusting them again. 40 brakes need frequent adjusting, that's why I put F100 brakes on the front of my 40.
Pop off the drums and check for glazing and/or contamination. You can check to see how well the shoes fit the drums at the same time and arc if necessary. Most brake shops and auto parts stores could arc shoes at one time but you may have to find an automotive machine shop to get it done these days. And, not to be insulting but you've got to remove all traces of grease and oil from the drums and the shoes when you are putting it back together or you will have problems.
It could be the lining itself, some of the newer shoe linings are very hard . Talk with your brake supplier for to see what they recommend.
