I shift mine at 7200 Doesn't really start making power till 3800 or so, has the chevrolet off road #1 7140 cam. Way back in the day my buddy had a 68 Z with 13to1 302 with aluminum rods etc, he would shift that bitch at 9500... I remember pulling my feet away from the firewall and tucking them as close as possible to the seato_O

Topic from the dead lol I’m just installing an NV3500 in my ‘66 GMC C1000, I have a Dana 44 in the rear and an just about to upgrade to a locker and new ratio (currently a 3.54:1) i was thinking a 4.10, how did this work out in the blue S10, I hear it has a very low OD (0.73) and the other end is a 4.13 1st, how does it drive with 4.10? Sorry saw this was from 2018 hopefully your uncle still has her

A now deceased friend of mine bought a new 1966 stingray, 365horse.shifted at 8 grand. I was riding with him. So much tire smoke in side the car we had to roll the windows down so we could see!

With that low 1st gear in the trans, the last thing you need or want is more rear end gear unless you are turning 44" Bogger tires s or something.
Put a locker in if you want, but save your money on the gears, keep the 3.54 you've got.

Back in the day, the hi po 327s did not have tri-power and 700r4s. The best ones were stick cars with lots of rear gear. So you are not going to get the same performance. The 700r4 is extremely sensitive to the sweep of the cam on the throttle arm that moves the tv cable. Just randomly hooking it up won't work. And depending on the details of your tri-power setup, you could be leaving a lot on the table. I love the look of multi two barrel carb setups, and use them, but do so knowing that I could go faster with a 4 barrel.

I'm betting that Tri power is the largest piece of your puzzle. Looks and performance don't go together. The 327 in my 63 Chevy with Holley 670 Street Avenger Carburetor really does the job.

Yeah, in a car where the engine is hidden under a hood I'd sell the tri-power setup to someone with an exposed engine and put a good single quad package on it.
