Update on engine, best of three heads is being repaired. Motor is a ‘55 324 that’s been bored to 371 at some point in its life and is now at .030 over. Valve train appears to be stock except for adjustable pushrods. With the heads now being 371 #16 from the #8 that came on the engine when I got it, I’m considering a cam upgrade from stock to take advantage of the better airflow.

Sending the engine out for balancing, now I need a flywheel, which seems to be another issue, does anyone have any suggestions? I’m going to call Wilcap and see if they may have one.

Wow, so it's a 324 punched out to 4" and .030' more? It's gotta be getting close to maxed out. I bored my 324 to 4" and figured that was it. Didn't know they could go so far.

I was thinking the same thing, but the machinist said there’s still a good amount of cyl. wall left.

Picked up flywheel and pressure plate, and dropped them off at machine shop, for resurfacing, balancing, and rebuild. Heads are repaired and ready for reassembly, progress is finally being made!

Really excited to keep following your build, and you're heart's in the right place with doing a memory build for your old man!

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. I’m hoping this would make him proud. I was talking to my uncle (dad’s brother) and he’s pretty excited about it, as he drove my dad’s ‘49 quite a bit. He’s been really good about info on dad’s car.

  11. [IMG]Are you assembling the block? Guess this plug should be in the block between the two front cylinders. Don't recall if mine ended up with it or not. This is the pic of @triumph 1 's engine fresh from the shop.
Apparently installed at the factory according to the assembly video I have seen from GM. Very curious why this was done, no official answer yet.

The shop will be assembling the block. Mine has the plugs as well, when I disassembled the engine I thought it was a blocked passage at first lol

Larry Fulton at Hot Rod Carbs has NOS Rochester small base air horns for 2G carbs, got 3 of them with a choke cover for a J2 setup, along with the 90 degree fuel inlet fittings. Really great guy and very helpful.

  14. Larry is a good man. Been at it for a long time. He had bailed me out several times when I was building tri power 348's 10 years ago.

Everyone gotta love those Rocket motors. Why else would they put Olds valve covers on SBC engines:eek: if they didn't?:D

Short story is stepped on brace and sealing it gave grab the first thing in front of me which happened to be a sheet metal duct strap got cuts and severed the flexor tendon in my ring finger. The good news is my cousin’s going to pick up the rear end and my engine this weekend and do what it takes to try to get both put in.!

  29. Since you are keeping the front suspension there are a couple things you can do if you want to lower it. They make dropped uprights but you can do like Cole Foster does and step the A arms.
