Hi Guys, Just purchased this cool '62 Econoline Turtletop Camper Van. It supposedly has a bad cylinder in the original 170 inline six. Someone nearby has a freshly rebuilt 200 inline six from a '66 Mustang Fastback. Would that be a simple "bolt right in" swap? (Have read that the '66 inline sixes on up have a different bellhousing. But I've read that this swap would work.) Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!
It might have a dual bolt pattern, meaning you may have to move the dowels, but they are basically the same engine.
Yep! I did it many years ago! Not sure if it’s a total bolt in with the transmission, as I got the bell housing with my 200. I then added a 1957 heaveir three speed with over drive and a 4:11 nine inch rear end. Sure made a difference in my van! You will like that 200, grab it and find a bellhousing if necessary. Most everything else will work with very little to no work. Get the carb with the 200 if possible. Bones
Yep I forgot about the carb/distributor bit. Use the Mustang stuff to be rid of the loadamatic clusterjump.
The small sixes kept Loadamatic throughout the 60s. Even the 240 big six kept LOM to the 70s. The 300s had a vacuum mechanical unit starting in ‘65. The ‘66 200 should still be LOM. As with LOM, he’ll need to make sure the carburetor and distributor come with the 200 and verify that they are the correct parts.
