I have an old chrome front end that has these round back spindle mounts . Now either some one back in the day did an amazing job of welding and blending a 32 drag link arm onto a set of round back spindles, or I have a spindle that I don't recognise.

Any one every seen anything similar?

I’ve seen at least two dudes here on the H.A.M.B. add a deuce steering arm to a later spindle.

    '32-'34 Ford spindle.

  4. People weren’t scared to weld steering parts until the internet showed up?

  5. It is not a 32-34 spindle. It is a 1937-1941 spindle.

Looks like there’s some file or sanding marks. Wouldn’t surprise me

  8. I got a couple of those on ebaY for my Mysterion. Didn't have the draglink arm. Right side didn't have a cross steer boss. Don't know how it steered! Had to cut and weld the tie rod arms to match what Ed did. I know nothing about old Phord parts but they matched Ed's spindles perfectly.

I would throw those spindles away if I were you. The arms have been reworked and are in different planes which means for a couple reasons your Ackermann is out the window. The asymmetric spindle arms won't allow the tires to track properly. Also, the backing plate flanges have been trimmed off and are useless for mounting front brakes. The right spindle doesn't need a second hole if draglink style steering is used.

  11. It's a shame the internet wasn't around when Ed Roth was building his cars. He could have done something productive, like posting pics of kittens on Twatter.

There are still people who do, they're just not concerned with Internet metallurgists.:D

  13. True, spindles are not practical. But point out something that is practical on this marvelous creation!!
