Nice picture of Broad causeway the bridge leading to Bay Harbour Islands, Florida, there was a toll booth and I used it daily. The picture must have been in the very early '50's.
WOW… this reminds me of something I experienced years ago. Several years back (~late 90’s) a friend was in very rural area of Virginia. He stopped to take a leak, at what looked to be an old country type store from maybe early 1900’s it was abundant and overgrown. While relieving himself behind near by shed he noticed a 1934 Virginia license plate in weeds. After investing further he noticed the shed roof was all the same ’34 year plates that had been used to shingle the roof. Being an old car guy he of course stripped all the plates off roof, discovering that they were pairs of matching numbers like new plates that had never been used. I even purchased a matching number pair for ’34 project car I had then. Later we learnt that in those days new state plates were distributed to country stores where people would purchase them. 1934 being about midpoint of great depression, we assumed they were not purchased and when the next year plates were received they just used old ones as shingles for shed roof.
I found a couple in a family album. Here 1923, my father on the hood, with his two brothers. Dad told me he never owned a Chevy, but his Dad obviously did.
